sore ankles and knees when doing leg work.....

I have a question for the educated crowd. I have been doing Cathe's Power Hour and MIS for about 4 months now, but can't seem to get the lower body thing right. I started out by using weights (only like
10# and then I went to 5#), but this made my knees ache so bad. So I have stopped using weight and just use my body weight, but my ankles hurt...especially when I run up hill. They just don't feel quite right. When I do squats, my knees don't feel all to good either. I work out in front of a mirror, so I know my knees aren't going over my toe. I have never worked out my lower body before.....I am shaped sort of like an apple, so my lower body doesn't need much work. God has graced me with good legs. But, the few times that I have in the past, it just never feels right. Am I doing something wrong that I am not aware of or is running and lower body work with squats and lunges too much for my legs to handle. For now, I am going to skip lower body with weights and do some stability ball work instead.

Thanks in advance,
Kim

I would say go to the doctor. 5lbs is very little weight for lower body and if you have been at this wt. for 4 months and have not noticed an improvement in strength or a decrease in pain, something may be wrong. Your biomechanics may be off. Atleast get some medical clearance before you continue. I find that knee pain is common, but usually as your strength increases your pain gets less and less. If it is truly this bothersome for you, see a doc.

And if you wanted to pick an exercise according to how bad it is for your knees, well, you DID IT!! Seems like you should lay off the higher impact activities until you find what gives! Good Luck, I know it would suck for me for sure if I could only handle 10lbs!
