Someone cancelled my hotel reservations for the RT

Cathlete
I'd kept them open b/c I was considering coming on Thursday & meeting those who came early. With my upcoming move, expenses & time limitations I decided against it.

So, I called Fairfield Inn this morning to cancel & it turns out they'd already been cancelled on March 23, the day of registration. I don't know who cancelled them, but I know it wasn't me. How could that happen? Seems a bit presumptuous for someone to cancel the reservations for me. I wonder if it was SNM cancelling them b/c I was wait-listed? Which seems wrong considering all the money I've spent on Cathe & the fact that all I wanted was a night or two w/the rest of her fans even though I didn't make the RT cut.

I think I'm a little pi$$ed about this.

Laura - I find it hard to believe SNM would do that. Was it perhaps that you booked and were supposed to call back to confirm or something?

Laura I wouldn't think anybody else would have the authority to cancel a hotel reservation but the person who made it, or at least someone who is calling with the correct confirmation number. Unless of course you booked it under the Cathe RT block to get the discount - then I'm not so sure. I also can't believe SNM would / could do such a thing, at least without notification to you. I wonder if all RTers need to call to verify that they still have a room. I would also be majorly pi$$ed and call the hotel back asking for some additional information.

ETA - even if SNM had the authority to change your rate out of the block price, I wouldn't think they could cancel the booked reservation altogether - just bump your room to the non-RT rate.

I'll be walking the Komen 3-day (60 miles) the week after Cathe's RT. To view my webpage go to: https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=202302&supid=166016627

Nope. I have the printed confirmation in my hand, including the confirmation number & all the room info.

And yes, I did book it w/the RT discount. Nevertheless, as a loyal customer for more than a decade (crap, I can still remember having to order Cathe's VHSs by phone) you'd think they'd cut me some slack.

I think you should ask them first before jumping to conclusions. I can't think of any reason why they would do that.

Me neither. I asked the woman on the phone who cancelled the reservations & she said she did. I said no, I mean who called & cancelled them & she said she had no way of knowing.

I'm not necessarily jumping to conclusions. I just have no idea who else would have or could have done it. :-(

The hotel rooms are our own responsibility, so I cannot imagine SNM calling and cancelling yours or even having the time to do so with all they have going on right now. I am holding 4 for a group of us coming though and I will definitely be double checking them now to make sure they are still there. I make a ton of hotel arrangements every week (Exec. Asst) and I can tell you that this kind of thing happens all the time. It's usually the hotel's mistake.

Hey Liann - let us know what you find out. I'm just wondering if the RTers would be well advised to call and verify their reservations - though they should not have to do so.

Laura - I would still be asking a lot of questions. In a potentially bad situation like this I always find it's better to play dumb and ask a lot of questions. Always make sure to get names, and ask what the corporate mailing address is where you can send your written complaint (YOU know how to do all of that). Tell them you still need that room and if they are sold out, ask them where they intend on putting you up. Push it, though politely, and you may get a room to come and socialize.

I was thinking the same thing, it's probably a hotel error. They do make mistakes, that's for sure. So, don't get too made at SNM, because I doubt that they had anything to do with it.

I thought it was common practice to call and confirm your reservation?

I do this for every trip.

I once called to confirm and was told my reservation was cancelled because the hotel had sustained damage - I'd already made separate airplane reservations, so I was NOT pleased.

Hi Laura Max! I am just seeing this now and can assure you more than 100% that nobody here at Cathe.com (aka Step N Motion) canceled your reservation. We don't have anything to do with making or canceling reservations (actually something we specifically prefer not to be involved with). This is all handled strictly through the hotel. I'm sorry this has happened to you and I will look into this and see what I can find out.

That's crazy! Wasn't there an issue last year where someone else's reservation was cancelled and the hotel had no idea who did it and when?
