Some news about wrinkle creams

The Today Show had a story this morning about Consumer Report's latest research on wrinkle creams:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032633/ (if you scroll down to the news stories keep hitting the arrow until you get to the news item--I think it's called "Turning Back the Clock" & you can see the whole story)

I was very pleased to see that Oil of Olay's Regenerist was proven to be the most effective--5 oz. serum, day & night cream for a total of $57. Lancome's L'energie was also highly rated w/day & night creams @ $176.

Yes I read about that a couple of weeks ago. I'm a make-up junkie, but when it comes to skincare I'm a drugstore gal. Both of my grandmothers used Olay and my mother uses Olay too so it's a family thing I guess. My grandmas died with gorgeous skin and my mom is 69 and her skin is absolutely radiant. I use Olay's Age Defying and Total Effects lines. I've tried Regenerist eye serum in the past, but I prefer Total Effects eye cream. I always have 2-3 bottles of Olay Foaming Face Wash (Sensitive Skin formula) to remove my make-up. I use that with a microfiber towel everyday. When I read that I wasn't surprised. Two dermatologists have told me in the past that the most important lotion or cream you should use is sunscreen. They both said also that with Cetaphil and Olay products you get the same results than with pricier lines. I'm talking about two different doctors I saw on different ocassions and they both said the same thing! I don't use Cetaphil, but I love Olay. However, what I don't spend in skincare products I spend in good make-up. :p

Hmm, interesting. I was experimenting with Aveeno since I am SO DRY in the winter that nothing seems to help (not even drinking gallons of water). I'm going to look more closely at the Olay products next time I'm in the store.

Thanks for the tip!

Rose, I'm the same way--my nana & mom used Olay & my nana's skin was beautiful til the day she died. (wish I could say the same thing about my mom but I'm afraid she's abused herself too much in other ways)

And I spend spend spend on upscale cosmetics. Sephora, MAC boutique & Nordstrom is where all my money goes........

I just started using the Aveeno calming moisturizer. So far, I really like it in that it gets rid of my dry patches, and I don't feel like I want to scratch the cream off an hour later. I don't know how calming it is. Melissa

This is interesting. I try not to spend much money on expensive products, esp after reading "Don't go to the make-up counter without me" a few years ago. Excellent book. This woman analyzes all the chemicals and ingredients in almost every brand product out there, and shows how much you get ripped off for "miracle" products. (I wonder if there's a newer edition?)

Glad to hear that! Just minutes ago I was on the Elizabeth Arden site looking at prevage. $150  Olay is looking better and better.

Paula Begoun--love her! Also "don't go shopping for hair products without me........" I think she updates her product ratings every 2 years or so, but she has a website (www.cosmeticcop.com), I think you can get more current info there. She also sells her own products.

Thanks ...

Glad to know I am on the right track .. I use Oil of Olay Total Effects in the morning ..and Lancome at night!! Yeah!! :7

Hi, I actually used to work in cosmetics with Chanel, Prescriptives, Estee and I was manager over an entire cosmetics department. The reason I tell you this, is to tell you for the most part the drug store brands have the same effect as the expensive. If you take an expensive brand to the drug store you will notice that is basically the same ingredients. The people that work at these counters are very trained in saying what everyone wants to hear, and unfortunatley most are very pressured to meet their sales quotas! Anyway now that I am out of the business I rarely use any of the expensive brands. I am not trying to rant, please forgive me if it sounds that way, just trying to save people money!

I use Paula's skincare line and I love it. It's just as good as some of the pricier lotions I've used. I will buy it again.
