...and am blown away.

Yes, I did agree to join in the the book club check-in back when it was proposed by, I think, LauraMax. I didn't really participate in the few discussions that were posted, but I did read...and enjoyed it SO much more as a 37-year old than as a teenager!

I loved the descriptions of the South around the Civil War....the clothes, the social etiquettes, the loyalty to the Cause. Even though I know the story was told from the point of view of a true southerner, it did make me go back and re-learn the in-and-outs of the Civil War and terms like carpetbagger, scallawag, etc. I had forgotten that the Democrats were the majority party of the south during this time...this encouraged me to delve into the history of the both the Republican and Democrat Parties.

And, to have the heroine of the novel not learn a DAMN thing...pure genious!

I added the movie to my Netlix que....and wouldn't you know it....a waiting list. Any other Catheites also waiting on this movie?!?

Just wanted to thank anyone and everyone who suggested reading this book again....now...what do I read next? (I've already read the STS manual!)

If you think you like Historical fiction, I recommend The Other Boylean Girl (don't see the movie, read the book).

If you like the idea of rereading a classic, I suggest reading Little Women followed by a recent book called March by Geraldine Brooks. March is the story of the family portrayed in Little Women, but by the FATHER'S point of view. Although I did not like Little Women when I read it as an adult, I LOVED March. But to appreciate March, you need to read Little Women first.

And then, if you are interested in very entertaining fluff, the Twilight series in so much fun! (really, I know, it's teenage reading, but such a good escape.

Wow, "The Other Boylean Girl" in on the stack of must-reads next to my bed!! And the Twlight books...I teach middle school and those books are EVERYWHERE, so I figured I'd better read those as well. My sister-in-law has been reading them, and she is completely and totally hooked! Thanks!

My 8-year old daughter started reading "Little Women", so maybe I'll read along with her and then read "March"....I think I recently read something about this book!

Thank you for your suggestions!

I will give March a try also. Thanks Lauren! I never read Little Women as a kid for some reason, but read it as an adult and really liked it. I then did some further reading about Louisa May Alcott and her family, so I will be very curious to read March.

I read March last year and agree it's very good (though I didn't really get hooked until after the first quarter of the book)! I discovered it by accident and was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend it to those who like historical fiction. Another one I would recommed is Mistress of the Sun by Sandra Gulland (it's in the Louis XIV timeframe). I also read the Twilight series and loved it!
