So I did KPC this morning for the first time

I didn't get to finish it b/c I didn't want to be more than 30 minutes late for work. :p But it was fun.......I really enjoyed the first 20 minutes (after the warmup), which was pretty intense. I LOVED combo 3 w/the jumping side kick--I remember someone posting how much they hated it so I was kind of not looking forward to it, but I did enjoy it.

I only got through the first 2 combos on the second section, but I didn't have quite as much fun w/these, they were just a little too easy. What did I miss after that? Hopefully something a little more intense?

BTW I also have a wardrobe question--why the heck are they wearing gloves? It's not like they're actually hitting anything..........

Hey Maximus! i get to do KPC for 1st time tomorrow! i'm a little afraid. i think they are wearing gloves b/c they are weighted.

Jes, Cathe and crew are wearing tape, not gloves. She posted, when the workout first came out, that they simply wore them because they looked good. So, they aren't weighted, nor does she ever mention weighted gloves anywhere in the workout. The first time I heard of them was here on these forums, and now I'm chomping at the bit to buy a pair.

Maximus, I'm very confused about what parts of the workout you actually did? The combo3 that Donna et al were talking about is at the very end, yet you say that you only made it part way through the second combo in the second section. That implies that you didn't get to the combo yet. Perhaps you are referring to the easier combo at the start of the high-intensity drills, where you do a few punches (I think) then do a sideways leap while pulling in your arms? That's a very fun move; my fav of the whole workout.

Cheers,
Sandra

Yep, that must be the one. It was fun.

Well crap, I guess I still have to dread making it all the way through. ;( How long is the cardio section anyway, just so I can budget my time better on the next try? How many combos are in the second section?

Edited to add: Jes don't be afraid, the workout itself is great fun & different than the usual stuff. If it's too tough just modify the power moves & work your way up to it. It's also the first kickboxing workout that actually had me sweating. It makes those Tae Bo people look like sissies. }(

And to add to Cathe's comments about the wraps: she mentioned (if I remember right) that they helped to keep their wrists in proper alignment. They are not weighted at all. JUST LOOK COOL!

I agree!

It sounds to me like you almost made it! There are three combos in the second section, and she does them one side at a time, so I guess you could say there are six half-combos. The third combo is the shortest, but the most intense. After that, she does core work on the ball, but that's kind of short, too. Then the stretch is pretty long.

How long is the cardio section anyway, just so I
>can budget my time better on the next try? How many combos

Oh gosh, let's see what I can remember. The intermediate intensity drills are about 10 minutes, I think, and the high intensity are about 25 minutes. The combo section is about 20 minutes. The core is about 8 minutes, and the stretch is about 5 minutes. I may not be 100% accurate here, but that's sort of what the times are.

And the music is fun! I like the song near the end of the high intensity drills with words along the lines of "just a little bit more", or something like that.

Bummer--so if I hung in there another 5 minutes I'd have done the whole thing. Thanks Sandra--at least now I know for next time.

About the music--I was thinking some stuff from the Rocky movies would've been really cool, like Eye of the Tiger & Feeling Strong. How fun would that be?

Maximus - twas I who hated the 3rd combo, but it's the 3rd combo in the second half of the workout. That's what you missed. I was going to call you a psycho for loving the one that I hated, but since you haven't done it yet...I'll reserve my judgement.

The rest of the workout is fun. I'm not super crazy about the last combo in the first half (where you do the hammer punches), but that's mostly because I feel like a royal dork doing them. And my daughter yells at me for grunting.

Well...I stopped killing the brain cells about the time I found out I was pregnant 5 years ago. So, I guess you're safe from me!:D

Maximus,he
Thanks for the warning.
Since I haven't been working out as much as all of you and I'm really not great at cardio, it will be interesting to see how much of the KPC I can get through. I'll let ya know.

I tried KPC this afternoon and worked up a major sweat. Cathe kicks butt!
I tried to do the kicks but had to keep stopping and finally fast forwarded parts, which is okay because I know I need to work myself up to doing this workout. Next time I do KPC it will be in the privacy of my bedroom because I look totally ridiculous doing this workout. (And everyone else in the house would get a good laugh.)
Love the music! "I wanna rock"

I did KPC for the first time on Tuesday. I really liked it, and that night my glutes and outer thighs were suffering major DOMS. The next morning my arms were screaming too.

I thought the workout was fun, but once I learn it, I plan on buying some weighted gloves to pick up the intensity.

KPC/LG is one of the all time best Cathe DVD's. Love, Love, Love both workouts. It would be my first recommendation for anyone really trying to improve their lower half..
