SO CONFUSED

i started Insanity on Monday. I must say WOW, thats some intense cardio, don't think I've ever quite sweat so much. However, I'm just feeling like my workouts incomplete without weights. I've done two 3 month rotations back to back and an undulating rotation. I've got great muscle tone and definition in my arms and get complimented on them all the time. I know I've got good muscle tone on my legs too, but i cant seem to get rid of that ugly cellulity fat on top :( Thats why I bought insanity, hoping to reduce that mess.
Was thinking of possibly doing a total body weight workout (MM,ME,etc) on the cardio recovery day. Someone please help, I don't know what to do.

I also started Insanity last month (I am currently on the recovery week). The second week I decided to add weights. I did one body part per day (except for legs). I used Pure Strength, MIS and upper body from Xpress Series. It felt good to add a little weight. Today I did Travel fit instead of the Core recovery. Next month, I'm going to do Gym Style, upper body from 4DS, and Slow and Heavy. I read that month 2 is tough. I absolutely love Insanity but my joints are starting to ache. I'm adding the puzzle mats in month 2 hoping this will help.

I added one day on to the end of my rotation each week in which I did an upper body work out b/c I too was nervous about completely abandoning the weights. It worked well for me. Just a thought.

I asked someone about this before and I was told it was likely more diet related than fitness related. I don't think I am capable of eating clean to the point of not having any fat in my legs. Just can't do it. I have gotten to the point of just accepting this about myself. I'm gonna have some fat, so there.

Thats just it, I eat clean, no fat no sugar, nothing bad. I have a problem with eating wheat, so that pretty much eliminates alot of the bad stuff.

The deluxe version of Insanity comes with an upper body weight workout, however I'm not sure how he recommends adding it in (I don't have it), this blog claims he suggests doing the upper body weight workout 2-3 times per week, but not sure if that is in place of or in addition to the standard rotation.

ETA: I was just wondering today if the people in the test group used the weight training to get those results.

Hi Dela

You can do Insanity Upper Body Weight Training in addition to the regular rotation, or if it's too much, you can do the weight training and then do the regular rotation the next day. Then you stretch the 60 days out further but it's quite effective :)

I think I'm going to try a total body weight workout once a week and insanity upper body once a week and stretch the rotation out and try that for the first month, then by month 2 I'll see how things are going and maybe I'll start sts again and use insanity for cardio. Just play it by ear I guess.

You may not have seen my previous thread. I LOVE doing Insanity followed by Gym Style workouts. Which GS depends on which Inanity workout I do. It's balanced and ooooh so tough but satisfying!!!!:eek:

That does sound great, but i don't have the time to do two workouts back to back. Maybe I can do GS three days and insanity the other three.

Thanks. I'm starting Meso 3 STS today, I am looking to try out Insanity after I complete this, I really need to focus on some fat loss, but like others, would not feel right without any weights at all.

Give it a chance....

I am currently teaching an Insanity class at my gym!! I would keep doing insanity without adding weight training...when you get to the next phase you will realize there is alot more upper body stuff. If you are really focusing on good form in your pushups and little upper body work in the first phase, you will not eat to add upper body weights. Phase 2 has even more upper body and requires even more pushups. From a trainers perspective, while weights are important, there is something to be said for using your bodyweight as your resistance training. You will actually find that you'll build greater strength gains faster through bodyweight training. I've never seen anyone get better at doing pushups and chinups doing only chest pressees and shoulder presses. You actually have to do pushups and chinups alot to get better at them. Insanity is a great program. As far as legs and buns go, this program will DEFINATELY let you see results there! I've never worked my legs and buns so hard and my students say the same thing!
If you put forth other energy into weights and other things while doing this program, you won't be able to give 100% to it. Give it all your energy and watch the results take shape. Keep your food in check and make sure you are eating enough calories to support your expenditure.
