So confused ... weight training question

Ok -- so conventional wisdom says to lay off the weights for 48 hours following a heavy training session in order to give your muscles plenty of time to heal and repair.

Does this only apply to using heavy weights?

The theory behind the Slim Series is light weights, high reps, but doing this everyday. Is this ok because you are only using weights for added resistance, ie: to burn more calories, rather than build and shape muscles? This does not break down muscles in order to build them stronger, I would guess, so the traditional theories would not apply.

So does this also apply to non-weighted strength building moves such as push-ups, pull-ups, crunches, lying leg work, etc?

Sigh. Once you think you have it all figured out ....

Thanks for your input!

Hi Kristen,

I'm not sure if there is a right answer to your question. When I lift heavy, I usually need to take the next day off and do something light- yoga, pilates, walking, etc. When I do a more endurance based workout like Power Hour with lighter weights and higher reps, I could probably do it two days in a row, but usually I don't. As for abs, I know that some people follow the day-in-between or 48 hour rest and other like to crunch daily.

I'm not very familiar with the Slim Series. Some ladies here do something called freestyle which involves training the lower body daily.

I'm sorry I couldn't help you more! I hope more people have some input!
