I know what chutney is, but the recipe calls for "snipped chutney"?

No clue what it is. please help me, vegans!

Thank you!

Susan L.G.

But aren't there chunks of stuff in the chutney? It's not just jelly (unless there are two kinds: one that is very jelly like, and the other that has chunks?)

Did you try a web search of the term?

Yes, it is chunky, but surrounded by jelly-like goo.

I googled "What is snipped chutney?" and "snipped chutney" and got lots of recipes *using* snipped chutney, and lots of recipes to make your own chutney, but no explantion of what snipped chutney actually is.

I wonder if it is chutney with snipped herbs mixed in?

Still wondering,

Susan L.G.

As far as I'm aware, chutney is more like an Indian salsa, than a jelly. At least all the fresh ones I've ever had are.

I think it just means the herbs are snipped.

You're right, Shelley - it *is* considered more like a salsa. They way it kind of oozes in the jar reminded me of jelly. I bought some at the store and used it.

In fact, I mixed it with no-fat salad dressing, a diced small granny smith apple, a cup of halved red grapes, poured in a small can of pineapple chunks (no juice), a dash of curry powder, and two cut up (no skin, no bone) cooked chicken breasts and had myself a yummy dinner with DH. We put the mixture on lettuce leaves and ate it that way.

mmm-mmm-good!
