SMALL VICTORIES---April

Hi Stacy,

Check back when you can Donna! Hey Stace, do you you have a all-time favorite DVD? I was thinking, today is KPC (I have the TV version) & I liked the timesaver parts, I thought it may be my favorite, it is today anyway :)
then I thought, next week it will be Cardio & Weights :) for sure

Core Crosstrain Kickbox is still one of the tops, & I haven't done any Ilaria's yet, may when the new one's come out, most of my stuff is from TV, but I use the premixes a lot in the ones I have, so I'm collecting as I can.

So, any all-time favorites?

Good work on the "never say-Diet diet" that's me, too. Eat healthy!

Linda

I didnt have many small victories today I'm afraid, unless you count mulching the flower beds!

My hubby is embarking on P90X tomorrow and I said I'd also do a 90 Day rotation of some sort....I've been browsing some old rotations to find something that looks good. We're both going to start making healthier choices, but he knows I've been practicing Intuitive Eating so he's not going to make blanket statements like "ok, from now on no junk food" b/c that will do nothing but backfire on me! I havent decided if I want to weigh myself tomorrow or not. I'm thinking no. If I do it will be elevated anyways b/c I had way too many salt carbs today.

Wish us luck!

I just found an old pic of me from about 5 years ago....and compared it to one this past Xmas....amazing difference what 5 lbs can make. It was very depressing to see pics of me with an obvious double chin. I really need to stop being in denial and clean up my act. :(

Good Morning and Happy Monday! Today is Day 1 of my 90 Day "project". I decided to follow along with my husband's P90X plan however I rearranged the workout days/rest days to fit my work schedule. I'm also not using the P90X workouts, I'm subbing my own. Today is Chest, Back and abs so I will be doing the Chest and Back section from the Gym Styles and then an ab workout, havent decided which yet. I did decide to weigh-in, though I am in tune enough with my body at this point that I pretty much already knew what the scale was going to read. However this is more about healthier choices, fitness, and buddying up with my hubby, but I wont complain if the number on the scale is smaller after 90 days ;)

Linda, you had asked about my favorite workout of all time. I'm not really sure I have an absolute favorite since I like them all for different reasons, and just b/c I like them doesnt necessarily mean I enjoy them at the time. But, if I had to pick my favorite based on effectiveness, fun factor, music it'd be one from years ago called Body Pump. I dont have it anymore b/c I wore out my VHS version. I dont think this one was ever released on dvd, but I'll have to check it out!

Hi Stace!

Good luck on the "90 days", glad you have a w/o buddy, you'll be ready for the beach! Unfortunately I had to low impact the all of KPC, I was about due for a reality check, I felt bad at first & then I thought about all the times in the last 6-8 months that I've felt like that, then I realized how much time had passed since the last time I had a knee twinge. Woo hoo, I couldn't remember. (Stuff like that used to happen frequently when I started...not so much anymore :D )

It's my aim to do as much as I can, not less & not more, at least for the next few months, after that?

Good Luck with the workouts!

Linda :)

Hi Linda....no shame in modifying especially if it protects your knees!

I did my Day 1 workout. Gym Style chest, GS back and abs from P90X.

Still trying to figure it out, totally subbed burn & shape for cardio overdrive today, for lower impact, but I don't know either of the two very well, it went okay but not like when you really know the routine.

I thought maybe barometric pressure drop may have caused that, but that rarely happens, and today was good, then I noticed I nice size black & blue mark right by that area, like where did that come from? that's age for ya!

oh well,

better luck tomorrow:)

Linda

This morning is P90X's Plyometric workout. I'm doing it with my husband and I dont want to look like a wimp, lol! I'm a bit leery of this one b/c of the impact, we'll see how it goes!

I notice more bruises when I dont get enough Vit C in my diet. I read somewhere Vit C helps with collagen or something to that effect.

Good luck with plyo's, if you're doing that, & the 90 days, no way you're wimmpy :)

I looked back at my notes from last year, when I was doing the beginner rotation, I thought, am I doing enough? there were many times, when I stopped during the step, modified or did things over & over to get them...

I think I'll just stick with this plan, and step it up in the next, kinda like P90 but my monthly rotations have a little break in between, they'll step up like that. I hope by summer I'll be looking & feeling stronger yet! :D

Keep chugging along Linda!! Progress is progress!

I did Plyo X and modified a few moves but did better than i thought. My knees felt okay too. I posted a blank calender page on my refrigerator and I'm writing in my workouts after I do them. Having that on the refrigerator door makes me think twice when I roaming for food when Im not hungry.

Tomorrow morning is yoga and abs. The P90X yoga is 90 minutes. I dont have time or patience for that so I'm going to do Jillian's yoga dvd, it's only 30 minutes.

My eating yesterday was decent. I still need to work on better choices and portion sizes and "respecting my hunger and feeling my fullness".

Donna...hope you are ok, we miss you!

Monday/Tuesday I was way out of sorts, felt lousy, but just did it, CCKB yesterday, late in the day. I hadn't done that for a while, but I like it a lot, felt good about it when I was done.

I haven't really found the stretching exercises I like yet, am/pm is athletic, good stretch, I like yoga & pilates but don't really enjoy the contemplative part, it comes across as just monotonous, when I just want a good stretch. I like the asian music at the end of KPC (?), though. I'm going to look into some other music, I think, like movie soundtracks, KPax meets, Kill Bill, meets, Tombraider, or a contemporary classical asian-techno fusion?

Good for you on the plyo's & calendar, we have these California oranges, I swear they're at least a pound each, & eat like a meal, yum!

Have a great day!
Linda

Hi Stacy!

How's the rotation? Is that more like weights/cardio or do you use body weight with P90x? both? Is STS split by body part like the gym styles or is it just one body part per day? Are they all different upper body & lower body exercises in the month? do you use some more than others?

remember what I said about the questions, I can be like that

today is Pump, Jump, & Jab, I used this one the most of that DVD, it was my kb primer after CCKB (remember when the legs wouldn't go that way? :p ), tomorrow is Denise Austin Daily Dozen kb/cardio mix ("plyo-lite") I used that & cardio overdrive to both test & step up the impact slightly.

Go forth! Eat Clean! Conquer!

Linda

Hi, woke up with a nasty head cold today, so skipped my workout. It's a bit frustrating, to feel like I'm sidelined already and I only just started this rotation!

P90X (you can get full details at beachbody's website) is a 90 day program of both weights and cardio. The weight routines are spit routines with a countdown timer and you do what you want during that time whether it be slower, heavier reps, or faster, lighter reps. STS Mesocycle 1's is more of a circuit/triset ie. Cathe will do an exercise for chest, shoulders, triceps and then repeat the same 3 exercises and then move onto to another set of 3. STS Meso 2 is divided by body part, ie. chest/shoulders/triceps are worked all separately in one workout. I like Meso 2 better so far, probably b/c it's less pushups! I have STS Meso 3, but havent tried it yet.

Denise Austin.....that was my very first workout I owned on VHS. I cant even remember the name of the workout now! I just bought her latest lower body compilation.

I hope tomorrow/this weekend to get back to working out. My eating hasnt been great. I need to stay focused as I've discovered that although I'm not "dieting" I'm not one of those people who can eat whatever they want and maintain my weight!

Hi Stace,

I can't eat whatever either :( so I'm really on a portion control for the bad snacks, etc. Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Hope that clears for you. Thanks for info on STS, P90x.
Denise's came with a food guide I posted on the fridge, 12 good foods to include in the diet, I do have most of them regularly, today, broiled salmon, broccoli, baked potato, snack: gigantic orange :)

I like Denise's, I don't do it often but she's fun. Pump, Jump & Jab is a solid intermediate & best of the Firm I have, I don't know who thought of the curtsey lunge though, they should be drawn & quartered! (it's a knee thing)

Head cold?...fresh air...noodlely soup :)

Linda

I opted for Vicks rub and a hot bath....less calories than the noodley soup ;)

I'm with ya on the curtsey lunge.....those are terrible for my knees!

Hi Stace,

Panini & salad, with fresh pickles from the market, had to try them!

Just getting to the workout today, Daily Dozen kb/cardio mix, ready to get
started on C & W, Drill max & Kickmax premixes next week. :)

Hope you're feeling better!

Linda

Yes, I am feeling better today. I did Cathe's Leaner Legs workout and abs today. I used pretty light weights, but don't want to stress the knee too much. Tomorrow is shoulders, biceps, triceps and then yardwork!

Diet is still a struggle....

Hi Stace,

Having a lazy day....oops, have you reached the nutrition part of the book yet? Going to try to balance my meals & snacks better, boyfriend is no help in this area... occaisionally, he does throw out the healthier idea, not always his fault.

Sometimes it's the planning that gets me, or lack there of.

Linda

Hello there! Yesterday my husband and I worked out together, just different workouts. He did the Leg/Back workout from P90X while I did the shoulders, biceps and triceps sections from Gym Styles. It's nice to have a workout buddy, even if we're not doing the same thing. What I noticed though is that after his workout he was sweating buckets and I didnt break a sweat at all. Granted, he was doing legs and pullups, but it made me think that even on my weight days I need to either add some cardio or push myself more so I can get more of a cardio effect for some extra calorie burn. I'm going to have to ponder how to do this in a time-efficient way!

I havent read much of my Intuitive Eating book in the past few days so I havent gotten to the nutrition section yet. I went to the bookstore yesterday and made a bee line to the diet section as always and found myself wondering which new book to buy and which new eatiing plan to follow. It's so easy to get sucked in again! I thought it thru and knew it was just a recipe for disaster. I need to keep plugging away with my intuitive eating. I feel I'm slowly coming out of what the book describes as the honeymoon phase where you just eat all the foods you've deprived yourself of for so long. Yesterday we were at a cookout and normally I would've binged on the potato chips. I did have some, probably still more than I needed, but I stopped on my own accord and thought to myself, "if I want more I can have more, chips are a simple ride to the grocery store at any time". Later, I felt myself craving fruit instead. I'm hoping that in time my body will crave the healthy foods more and more often. The last segment of the book I read talks about "satisfaction eating", where you eat "healthier" things to avoid what you really want. The example they use is wanting a piece of corn bread, but you eat rice cakes to fill its place. That leaves you unsatisfied so you nibble on something else to fill the cornbread void and eventually you end up eating either too many other things or you ultimately eat the cornbread and eat twice as much of it than you originally wanted b/c the craving for it grew and grew over the day. I see that alot where I work. Everyone's on a diet and avoiding this or that and they nibble on a piece of cake here, then have a rice cake to "make up for it" etc etc. Nobody is making any progress in their weight loss and everyone feels like they cant eat anything enjoyable. I know I'm rambling this morning, lol.

My husband and I have the kickboxing and ab workout from P90X planned for today....off to workout! Have a good Sunday!

Linda, looks like it might be just the two of us now....dont feel any pressure to keep checking in to our "non-check in" but I plan on hanging around for awhile!

Hi Stace,

Did Cardio Sculpt Fusion yesterday, pretty late, and skipped weights, they're light on that, first time I did that one, and felt like it was good for full range of motion, rating for the week, about 3 1/2, the firm ones seem to drag, a little. Timesaver week was a 5!

Noticed though my upcoming rotation doesn't really have any dedicated leg work, hmmm? Going to look into some more lower body workouts this week for up coming rotations, as well as the menu plan for the next few weeks.

Eat this!
