Slow & Heavy! How effective and do you all use them??

I got a pretty nice bonus for this month and most is going towards savings, but should I splurge a little and buy the slow and heavy series??

(I am holding off on Hardcores until after our first year anniversary in August - hoping husband will buy me the whole series or if not in August, then I will ask Santa for Christmas.........)

I feel guilty bc I ordered Legs and Glutes and KPC three weeks ago - but they are backordered and I am so so so Antsy!

How often and how effective are the slow and heavy series?

I just did Slow and Heavy the other day and still really like it. I do prefer the Hardcore and Pyramids, but S&H is nice to mix it up. It is amazing how changing up the pace of the movements can really effect how it feels. It's a nice addition for variety and like all Cathe work outs, it's effective.

Slow and Heavy is one of my favorites. I like to do it, like Cathe suggests in one of the workouts, for a few weeks and then not again for a few months while I do another rotation. But when I go back to it, oh my, but I feel it the next day! I love that. I think it's worth having in your workout tape collection.

This is the way I use it too.

I do them for much longer than a few weeks. I do them for as long as I do any other rotation. The attraction for me is being able to do one body part per day for just one half hour each day. I have trouble breaking down Cathe's strength workouts into bite-sized pieces, but S&H breaks down perfectly into one body part per day. I like knowing that every muscle group has been separately targeted and worked to the max.

I am one who never really liked using weights. I have been since finding Cathe, and I was surprised how much I really liked S&H. It's my favorite strength w/o. There's something about that slow count and those trembling muscles... I also think the S&H series is pretty unique (but I haven't tried PS yet).

RE: Slow & Heavy! How effective and do you all use them...

I don't use S&H as often as most of Cathe's strength training workouts, but when I do use it, it breaks my plateau. I usually get to add more to the weights I use in other workouts. I can't stick with S&H for too long because of the slow counts, but it's a series that delivers, so I use it to shock my body. If you don't mind working one or two body parts a day to slow counts, you can use it longer than one usually would for a rotation. I know there are a few ladies here who use S&H more often than any of Cathe's strength training workouts and are getting good results from it.

Also, I use S&H a bit differently. Cathe works the positive phase of the movement in a 6-2 count (6 up, 2 down) for all sets. I make sure the negative phase is worked as well, so I do the sets using a 6-2, 2-6 and 4-4 count respectively to work both the positive and negative.

Do add it to your collection. There's no other like it in the market. I'm reading a lot of posts lately about backorders. Gosh... is Cathe getting famous or what?:)

I agree Nancy!

Sometimes I like to do a CTX cardio + a S&H upper body part to give me an hour workout. That gives me 5 days and on the sixth day I do S&H Legs plus some floor work legs.

I love S&H - especially the leg segment. That is when I really learned good form on lunges because I wasn't worried so much about my balance like I am when I'm trying to keep up with a faster rep speed. Now the faster rep speed of other workouts is "easier" ;)

I'm in my second month of a rotation using S&H for two weeks followed by Gym Style for two weeks. This is the first time I've done this and I can tell it's made a difference in my muscle definition. One thing I've noticed though - be warned - is that you may find you have an increase in your appetite. I've been eating more lately but found that it's had no effect on my weight, which is good. I highly recommend S&H just because it is so much different from all the other weight workouts. You won't be disappointed.

I have to agree with everything that has already been said about S&H - I personally love what it does for my body.

I am presently doing one S&H body part every day with CTX cardio and abs combined for a 75 minute workout.

Go for it!!

I just bought a used S&H and have just used the Dvd this week. Okay, here's what I don't like about the workouts...too much time between sets. This gets completely on my nerves and I end up dancing around the room to the music.

Yea-yea-yea...I understand WHY there is such a long break between sets but this is just not my workout style. It wastes a lot of time.
