Slow and Heavy Series

Cathlete
Hi everyone, have not been on much, going through my second bout of pneumonia, starting to feel like I'm on the upswing. I'm just curious. I see that Cathe posted that the new slow and heavy series tapes will be approx. 53 - 59 minutes each. I usually do weight training 3 times a week. I'm not sure if they are that long if I can even manage twice a week if I still want to fit in cardio, which I do need to burn off these 20 pounds I need to shed. Does anyone know exactly how much weight training you need to make it work? I've been doing MIS 3x a week. I never had the PS series which sounds similar to S&H. How did people work this all into their schedule. Thanks in advance for any advice. Everyone have a great day. Mary

Well, I can tell you what I did with the PS Series. When I did CST, I would do a CTX tape (cardio only) or half of MIC afterward. Same thing with BBA. Now on SLA one day I wouldn't do any cardio. My other SLA day I'd do CTX kickbox first. Wow, I'm confusing myself! Here, here was my schedule.

MON:pS BBA and CTX cardio

TUES: PS CST and 1/2 of MIS

WED: PS SLA

THURS: PS BBA and CTX cardio

FRI: PS CST and 1/2 of MIS

SAT: CTX kickbox and PS SLA

SUN: REST

Well, I unconfused me. I hope I unconfused you too;-)! Hope this helps!!

Aimee, thanks so much for your reply, I think I get it. I just do not know if I'm going to have enough time to do it like that. Hopefully, I'll figure something out. Mary

Hi Mary,
I know exactly what you mean. It is a constant struggle for me to fit in enough cardio AND enough strength training as I am trying to lose weight also. I suppose it will be easier when we are more happy with our weight, but in the meantime...I do an hour of cardio in the a.m. if I don't have to work a double shift & approx. an hour of strength at night no matter what time it is! Well, with exceptions of course, but not too many or I will lose my focus. That's the only way I can do it. Sometimes I go a little hog wild if I get a day off - my last one I did 4 workouts! Which was just for fun of course. Good luck, I know how hard it is to fit all this in. Oh, I have one so-called rest day (Sunday) but will use it to catch up if necessary. I probably shouldn't though!
Let me know how you get on...Ruth

My problem is now fitting in enough cardio, enough strength training and enough YOGA in one week!

I really think I'm just going to have to sit down with my husband and tell him I need to quit my job so I can have more hours to fit in all my workouts!!! :7 :7 :7

Hi guys, somehow I screwed up, I was trying to post with Ruth's comments, but it did not happen. Anyway, I was just going to say that it is so hard when you work to fit in all this time and I definitely still need the cardio too. I just wanted to say what time do you get up and go to bed to accomplish all of this. Also, you must have a ton of energy. Take care. Mary

It IS hard if you work, isn't it? It's bad enough if you want to fit in the "Triad" - strength, cardio, flexibility - but if you need to lose weight it gets really hard. The last thing I read said we need all that, & we need to do AT LEAST an hour of cardio every single morning, & then another 20 minutes or so at night!! I don't know where these "experts" think we can find all this time. I try to do another 10 min's of cardio at night which I use for my strength warmup, but that's as far as I am willing to go! I have yet to figure out where to fit in the Yoga or whatever. Let me know if you find anything workable!

Mary,

It is very well documented that doing fewer sets in a workout is as effective as doing more. Training with heavy weights once per week is absolutely fine if that's all the time you have. Doing MIS three times a week is quite an accomplishment! I run occasionally in the very early am(I live in Tucson-104 today). I cross train with Cathe's Crosstrain Express. I love the kickboxing. You could try (I hope you don't want to smack me for this!) adding ten to twenty minutes of cardio before your MIS workout.

Hey, Bobbi--

I was in Tucson yesterday for lunch! My boyfriend and I drove down from Scottsdale to see Kartchner Caverns, but they didn't have any openings until 4pm, and it was around 11 when we got there. We headed home but didn't want to completely waste the trip, so we stopped in at La Poca Cosa (I think?) for lunch. Have you been there? It's 88 N. Broadway, I think. It was really yummy Mexican food with a twist. We were going to walk around after, but it was JUST TOO HOT!!!
Sorry so off topic ;-)
Wendy

Hi, Wendy!

Wendy,

I haven't been there but have heard of it, it's supposed to be good. Do you live in Scottsdale? I haven't been to the caverns either. Isn't that terrible? Hot almost doesn't do justice to this kind of heat, don't you think? And you guys get even hotter than Tucson! I am leaving on Wednesday for a visit with my mother.
She's a mile from Lake Mchigan. I hope the weather stays moderate there because I'll take 104 and dry as a bone in Tucson over the high heat and humidity in Michigan anyday. Good to hear from you, Wendy!
Bobbi

yep...

We live in Scottsdale, and it is so incredibly hot today, and I just saw the forecast for the week--110's pretty much all week! Ugh. But you're right, the humidity I used to have in Charlotte and Pennsylvania were much worse, as far as I'm concerned!
Have fun with your mom :)
Wendy

RE: yep...

Bobbi - so you think that training each body part only once a week is enough? Would I still see improvement? I am hoping to get in twice a week, but am still trying to figure out how. Naw, I won't smack you re. adding cardio before MIS! Problem is, to fit in MIS, I usually do approx. half in the morning and the other half after work, so I wouldn't have enough time. I'm thinking that the warmup on MIS is a step warmup, but not sure how long that is or if it would count. Thanks for your thoughts. Mary

Split up the PS leg tape.

I split up the PS leg tape. I will do one upper body PS with the standing portion of PS legs on one day. Then I will do the other PS upper body tape with the floor portion of PS legs. I do this because I only do weights twice a week, and it's a nice change from doing MIS.

RE: Split up the PS leg tape.

This is really a great idea....I don't think I ever thought of combining these tapes that way!

RE: Split up the PS leg tape.

Jane - That sounds like a great idea. I'm assuming that the slow and heavy tapes will be similar to PS. Thanks so much. It will probably be easier to figure out when we know exactly how long the tapes are going to be. That way I could fit them in twice a week. Thanks Mary
