Slimming calves

Hi, Cathe! I love working my calf muscles, however, I don't seem to work it in every week. I have been losing in my thighs -- almost one inch so far and recently lost 7 pounds. I'm at a healthy weight; I workout five to six times a week, and I have many of your works and do them every week. I also run 2 to 3 times a week. Okay-- how do I slim my calves? Is it possible or is it genetic? I'm a a pear shape. While I'm happy with the changes occuring in my body, my calves are not budging. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I know that it may difficult to answer this question as you've never seen me but . . .

I must also tell you that I choke up every time I do interval 9 in Imax 2, and I do it at least twice a month. Tonight my husband walked by as I was working out, and said, "Are you crying?" I replied, "I always cry after interval 9." He said, "That Cathe . . ." and laughed.

Not Cathe here, but I just wanted to welcome you to the "big calf" club. There are quite a few of us here, LOL!

I believe that calf size and shape is very much tied to genetics (which explains guys with huge quads and puny calves, and calf implants for male bodybuilders).

If you have extra fat over the calf area, then generally losing body fat will slim down this area. How much fat can you pinch over the area?

If I do calf work, I usually do it unweighted and focus on reps rather than weight (calves bear weight all day, and are a fairly small muscle, so don't need to be worked that much, IMO. Though they do need stretching because they can tend to get tight). Plyo moves also involve the calves.

Hi, Kathryn. Thank you for your reply. I tried the unweighted calf raises tonight. We'll see what happens.:7
