Skydiving! By a proud mom! ( long)

Cathlete
Hi everyone! As some of you have read my son and his buddy tried to do thier first jump last weekend and were put on weather hold. Very dissapointing! So off we went again yesterday for them to jump!

I swear I was more nervous/excited for them, then they were themselves. Once they were fited into jumpsuits and harness I swear it was all I could do not to cry! I was literally sick to my stomach. My son is a very witty guy and he had everyone cracking up and having fun. Then I notice he seemed a bit off and I went to him and said "no one would think less of you if you change your mind " To which he replied " mom half the fun of this is to be a little nervous and scare, I am fine ". He will be 24 Wednesday so I had to just back off and be afraid for him but at the same time excited!

So next they head to the small prop plane with the instructors and up they go. The people who work there were so nice. They kept us informed and updated. We had about 20 inutes befor they would be jumping. Oh my was that a long twenty minutes. I looked at the other mom and said "did you ever think we would be staring up at the sky waiting for our kids to fall out of it "

So then they announce that the guys had left the plane and we continued staring up and soon here they came! It was a very exciting moment and as my son got closer he was waving and being a goof ball as usual. Next came the actual landing. His buddy jumped first and so he landed first and his landing was fine. By this time I am more calmed down and just really happy for them. Them I see my son and his instructor are coming to fast! My heart fell and I had a panic moment when they hit to hard and rolled. One of the cathchers yelled to me that he was fine and I was welcome in the landing area. He was fine except for a banged up knee (nothing major) and was grinning from ear to ear. Both guys were and they were thrilled to have done it!

As a mom I am very proud of him and happy it was the thrill he was looking for. He said the scariest part was leaving the plane. After that he says you just feel like you are floating and it was a blast:) The fast landing was not even bothering him..it's just one of those things when dealing with wind etc. Now they want me to try it! THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! Anyway thanks for letting an excited and proud mom share this. He is my only child so I do get very emotional :)

Oh and one of the guys that work there said to me " hey you look like you work out" Jumping burns calories. I just smiled and said uh huh nice try I aint going up!

I know you were a little scared and you really had to put your fears on hold to support their wishes. What a great wife and Mom to be so supportive!!! It really showed them you have faith in their abilities :)

Awwwww, Terri, that's fantastic! I was thinking about you yesterday, wondering how it went. I'm glad he enjoyed it and that he was safe.

You'd never catch me jumping from a plane either, unless it was a plane full of spiders!

Glad he had fun! I wanted to skydive for many years, but i got over it....if something happened to me, who would take care of my dogs?!

it's great that you went to watch and be supportive and i'm glad it didn't turn out like last time!

Oh Terri, I don't know if I would have been able to watch! However, you're right to be there for support no matter what your fears are. I'm sure it meant so much to him that you were there!

Terri, you were a super cool mom to be there to support your son, even though you were scared. Sky diving burns calories?? From what the stress and fear of dying?!? I'd rather burn calories doing IMAX 3 thank you very much! :)

Marla, I'm very impressed! What more are you hiding from us? Swimming with the sharks, bull riding, jumping motorcycles? :)

Nadine, I agree I will burn my calories from Cathe! It is safer! I get nauseated just looking at marlas pics!

Terri

Well, Nadine, I'm think you did figure out how skydiving burns calories. Couldn't agree with you more. LOL!

Marla

Terri, that WAS me. I'm a little more mature now. I can still feel that terror when you first jump out.

Marla:eek:

Here is a quote from my son about this. "I''m not brave, i'm just young and stupid" After I told him how brave he was. I guess you know the feeling huh?

Terri

I can't help but laugh. How old was he anyway? And you must be one hot mama for those jumpers to want to jump tandem with you!

Marla

He will be 24 Wednesday! I don't know about being "hot". I think they just wanted someone they knew they would scare the hell out of! :)

Terri

Terri~What an awesome story. I got nervous myself and could feel your feelings just reading up to his jump! You SHOULD be proud. Thanks for sharing and Marla, GREAT pix! You go girl. They would have to push me out of the plane or like Shelley said, fill it with spiders! Ha!
