Hi Guys,

Who has read this book and what did you think of it? Should I buy it? Just curious as to what it is actually about.

Thanks,

Hi Reese,

I have this book, and have read it a couple of times. My favorite thing about it is that it makes me laugh - these women say the things that we all have probably thought at one time or another. They pretty much lay it out - if you want to look good you have to stop putting crap in your body! The book goes into detail about processed food, how animals are treated before they become food, and the many chemicals and other "stuff" that's in our food sources. For me it was somewhat of an eye opener, and I am more careful about what I eat now. They do have some good advice, as well as some social commentary.

It's not a diet book or a weightloss plan, but the info. is applicable for anyone who wants to eat and look better. I would recommend it for a good read, and I guarantee it will make you think before you eat another cheeseburger!

Hi Reese,

Like Jan said, the women who wrote it are funny -- but only up to a certain point. After I was a little ways into the book, they ended up really bothering me because they kept insulting their readers in an "oh-aren't-we-clever" sort of way (if that makes any sense). I almost didn't finish the book since I was so p*ssed off at how condescending and just plain mean and crass they were.

The book is really all about becoming a vegan, and it does contain useful information, but I think that there might be better choices out there. I know that other people really love it, though, so it might be worth getting since it's not that expensive.:)

I liked it because it motivated me to become vegetarian. I had been considering it for quite a while but this definitely was the impetus. What I thought was also good about it was that it would reach people who might not read other books about becoming veg. There were other threads here on the forum about it and I remember someone mentioning that her 17 year old daugther read it while she was not motivated to read other books--changed her eating habits too I believe. No meat chicken or fish since I read it last September. Rent it from your library if you can and see what you think. I know the language put some people off.

If you liked skinny bitch, I would recommend Dr. Joel Fuhrman's new book titled "Eat For Health". It is a follow up to "Eat to Live" which is basically a vegan lifestyle, however the emphasis is more on eating vegetables and fruits as opposed to a lot of tofu and vegan junk food recommended in "Skinny Bitch". A lot of people found his "Eat To Live" book to difficult of a change to make, so his new book "Eat For Health" shows you how to transition into his eating plan. My husband and I have both read all of Dr. Fuhrman's books and follow his nutrition recommendations. I have gotten my cholesteral down under 100, my vision in both eyes has improved, I have no weight issues anymore and I feel better than I ever have in my life. His books address all of the common vegan related questions such as, "where do you get your protein?", "do you get enough Vitamin B-12", etc.

Sorry that I sound like a commercial for the book, but is improved my quality of life significantly.

It is a good starter book to maybe spark someone into looking into a veggie lifestyle however there are a lot better book out there. Like another poster mentioned the book is not really that great with nutrition. I would read Becoming Vegan or Eat To Live for a more healthy approach.
