Simple but curious question

Why is a Yoga class up to 11/2 hours to 2 hours long and can have up to 20 - 30 participants but one instructor

Where

Pilates is always an hour (sometimes less), up to 10 participants and sometimes two instructors - one instructing the class, one spotting

Attending some Yoga classes have made me hesitant because Im thinking OMG - how can she/he even see me!

Thanks

Marion, I think that's a very interesting question and I'm not sure of the answer but it seems to me that each of my favorite instructors have their own particular style and that might get lost if there was more than one teacher present. However, some of the most popular classes do get huge and it has to be difficult to keep track. On the other hand, I go to the same instructors over and over and either specifically get their attention if I need it or trust I am doing okay if they leave me be. Raising your hand and asking for help can mean you get to demo something you are srtuggling with and I hate that, so sometimes I ask for help before or after class. I know some participants want smaller classes but the most popular instructors draw big numbers. In smaller basics classes though, they tend to really be hands on and starting out they knoew I was a novice and gave alot of attention. And it was in graduating to the second level that the classes started getting huge. I have never taken a Pilates class but I think it's great they have more than one instructor when needed. I like the big classes best but for those who don't, it could be discouraging. I have yet to take a two hour class but I am looking forward to it when I can. I hope this helps.
