Silly--need help deciding!

I can't believe I'm posting this, but I can't seem to make up my mind! Do I take my usual really light ballet workout class and then swim? Or do I go to a class at a different gym that is likely to be more challenging but no time for swimming? :(

I can't decide--and there's a long story behind it that I will bore everyone with. :)

I take a ballet workout class at my gym every Sunday morning, then go swimming. I love ballet and have been taking classes forever, but I'm definitely in the adult beginner category--I don't have the look or ability of someone who took classes every week starting at age 3.

My current class is fun and really low-key--there's no pressure and it's not filled with people who call themselves beginners but who are semi-pro dancers. I get intimidated really easily. I know I shouldn't--I'm not there to be a pro dancer, just to have fun and exercise. But when I see what dancing is SUPPOSED to look like and then look at myself, I feel like a total jerk for even trying!

ANYHOW....!! (told you this was long) :(

My current ballet class is fun, but it's so low-key that it's barely a workout, and I know I'm not learning anything in ballet anymore. There's a class at a gym that I used to go to, given at the same time today. Do I go to that instead (and miss swimming, cause I have to meet a friend later today)? Or stick with what I already know? I've been looking for classes on other days, and have always been too chicken to go to them.

Thanks!! Sorry for the sob story--told you this was silly and long! It rots to be so indecisive about things.

I'm LOL because I often have trouble making these kinds of decisions. I guess I'd be tempted to try the new class and see what you think about it, especially if you don't think you're seeing any real gains from the ballet. You can always go back to the ballet class if you want to.

Hey Bunbun! I love to work out hard on Sundays so I am going to put my .02 in for the more challenging workout with no swim. If I'm not getting a good dose of intensity and challenge from an instructor I get antsy and frustrated, I want to blow off stress from a w/o not accumulate it!
If you decide to try something new just know that my fingers are firmly crossed that you find an awesome class that kicks your butt (I mean that in the nicest way possible }( :) )

Take Care
Laurie:)

:) Thanks, ladies. I thought about it a lot and am thinking that I will stick with my regular class today because 1. I hate to not swim and there's no way I can fit in a swim today without going to that class. 2. despite the low intensity of my usual class, I have actually made some really big gains in basic ballet technique just because I feel so unintimidated there. 3. With the swim and ballet, my butt is really kicked. :) So what I'm going to do is do my usual class today and then MAKE myself go to a second, harder class during the week. That's the hard part--making myself go to something new.

Teensy question, bunbun: have you told the ballet instructor you don't feel like you're getting as good a workout and ask for his/her advice? Maybe they've been holding back and don't realize everyone has progressed?

I agree with your resolution, BTW. Good luck later in the week!!!

When the class is small, she throws more challenging stuff at us. We tend to get a lot of people who have never any dance at all before, cause it's supposed to be more workout than ballet, so a lot of times it's really basic. Also, the people in this gym tend toward the elderly side....

When I was thinking about it today, though, one of the things that I realized is that the thing I like about the class is that I'm not constantly struggling with new steps. So that gives me a chance to actually work on the really basic but really hard stuff, and I've gotten better because of that. But yeah, I will ask next week. Again, depends on who we have in the class. Can never tell from week to week.
