i can no longer do lunges off a step and only do step or leg work no more than twice a week because of a pain on the bone to right side of my left knee from working out legs. it does not bother me after a few days of working out. just curious if anyone else has had this problem.

I've had some knee pain, not sure but I believe it's overuse. I was doing Cathe's workouts 6 days a week and I started having knee pain. Went to my ortho he says nothing bone related and he wasn't worried. But, like you, if I rest a few days or just walk, the pain subsides. Then I'm right back at it and the pain starts again. I typed in knee problems at the search engine and it was talking about alot of peoples knee problems could be due to the lack of stretching. I'm no doctor, but the stretching seems to help a little bit. My problem is I can't stand not to work out. I'm trying to lay off the step a little bit and walk a few days a week. Not much help, hope it straightens out for you.:)

I have pain in the area I think you're describing. I've been paying more attention to it (because it's worse than it used to be!)and it goes away if I use a 4" step or by resting it. I'm pretty sure mine is arthritis related but I went to the doctor and he ordered x-rays and some blood work and then gave me an anti-inflammatory medicine. The medicine helped tremendously and I go back in two weeks for all the results of everything.

I took weeks of anti-inflammatory meds and it didn't help. Makes me wonder if mine is muscle/ligament related. Do you know if anti-inflammatory meds works on muscle too? My doc says no arthritis for now. I always push myself too far and end up w/aches. Mine doesn't hurt while I'm working out, but afterwards. Ice doesn't help much either. What does help is laying off but that's hard too!;( Hope everything goes ok with your results.

could be your ACL .. do you feel like you have a "wobbly" knee .. if so more than likely it is an aggrevated ACL tendon .. use the RICE recipe .. rest .. ice .. circulation and elevation .. and lay off for a week or so .. then try again .. if you still have pain I would see a knee specialist and get an MRI done!!

I just got over a tendon tear w/dibri in my right knee .. and trust me .. if you keep pushing you could make an easy situation worse .. get it checked out!!

Hello my fellow knee suffers;(
I had never had knee problem until 3 months ago. I went to the Orthopaedist and he took xrays. I have perfect bones so thats good, but basically its tendonitis, mostly in the inner part near the knee cap. Other than rest, avoiding direct weight lifting to the quad area (ie, squats & lunges) and taking it real easy I don't think it will just go away. It sounds like this is what most of you may have too. I decided to go to physical therapy to help it along. I have not worked my legs in over 2 months, ugh, but I am allowed to do cardio in forms of the stationary bike and elliptical (flat or on a very slight incline). I even told the Therapist I was doing HIIT on the elliptical for 20-25 minutes a couple times a week to keep my quads tight/shapely and she said that was ok. She has me also doing band strengthening exercises. Staright leg though, no bending to work the quad. Its all about strengthening the knee area. Plus, I am icing it every day and have a foam roller at home or use the one in the gym and really work loosen IT band which has been a real huge help. Making sure the muscles aren't pulling the knee cap out of whack is important. So STRETCH!

I was told I can resume leg work in about another month, slowly. I will start off with lunges but half way not too deep and take it from there. I hope this "lenghty" response was of some help. I say really be careful, if you do major damage you will be out for the count for a long time so workout but be smart and make sure you stretch and try and get a hold of the foam rollers.

It doesn't so much feel wobbly as sometimes when I do a squat I get this sharp stabbing pain on the inside of my knee close to my kneecap, it goes away as fast as it comes. It may or may not do it at all. Never does it when I jump or run. I had a trainer watch me and she said my form was great. I'm supposed to go to my ortho tomorrow (again) we'll see what he says. Thanks for the concern:)

There's a lot of information on knee pain on the web. Check it out to see if you can self medicate this injury or if you should see a doctor. Knees aren't anything to mess around with. I have IT Band issues if I push too hard, but if I take it easy for a few days and ice it every time I work out, I'm okay.

Skye and Christine! Thanks for all your information, sounds like alot of us suffering from similar issues. I sure appreciate all the response.:7

alot of useful info! i also went to the doc. at that time i was doing alot more leg work than now. i find MIC not too hard on the legs and even low max or kb, and powermax though low max only once a week. guess because the lower body not stationary work. lunges on step seem easier than floor. what other workouts do u think would be ok on the legs? i like p90x legs and back because he says to keep legs strait and its slower pace. just hurts to do lunges with leg on high step.

i just wanna add that i do wall squats for a substitute for squats/clea squats. mostly in her circuit workouts like bootcamp
