Should I workout with injury?

Hello everyone,

Last weekend I did KickMax and, lo and behold, I injured myself somehow. I think I strained a muscle in my left hip. I don't know if this was related to the workout, but I think it is. I did the KickMax up to the blasts OK, but then I started on the leg condition drills. After a few leg (left side) lifts of the 1st drill I decided I didn't have time to complete it all so I stopped and stretched. That night my left thigh hurt like hell. I thought I have dislocated my hip or had the same injury as Brenda, so I immediately went to the Dr's first thing. He said it was just muscle strain.

I have been taking pain killers and using medication on the muscle and I am feeling much better today. Anyhow, I can't do cardio and lower body weights for about 2.5 weeks. Do you think I could carry on exercising with weights for the upper body only? I was thinking Push Pull upper body premix all this week and until I recover. Normally I would not exercise at all but this was not a scheduled rest week, and I just started using PP & SS DVD and loving it.

I can tell you one thing, next time I will do the entire program, not cut it short.

Thanks for your inputs.

I would not do ANYTHING that involves your legs, especially your hip flexors. You need to rest it to repair the strain. If you work out before it is all better, you could injure yourself worse.

Stick to upper body only, but then, of course. You could probably safely do Stretch Max. As a matter of fact, some GENTLE stretching could help your recovery along a bit. But be very gentle and careful on lower body stretches involving the hips, and preferrably non-weight bearing types of stretches - stick to the gentle floor work.

Stick with upper body, core work. But don't do any moves that aggravate the area (which planks and push-ups might). Some yoga or stretching would probably be okay as well.

I am in the same boat. I did the kickmax leg conditioning drills the other day after a run and my right hip and and hip flexor has been sore now for about a week. I was going to do something cardio based today along with upper body, but after reading the sound advice here, I am going to just let it heal without stressing it further. I also agree that only gentle stretching should be done. I think overstretching the area will make it worst. Hopefully by next week we will be stepping with everyone else:)
