Should I see doctor or not?

Some of you already know that I have been having foot problems. I have had this problem for a little over a month now. Everything that I have read sounded that I have achilles tendonitis. It doesn't hurt as bad as the beginning, but it is still there. Sometimes when I get up in morning It is real stiff and makes walking difficult. I have iced it but not as often as I should. I definitely do it after I do leg work or low impact cardio, which is LM. I'm wondering if there is anything else that I can do to help this.

Should I be seeing a doctor or try to heal it on my own? It is not getting any worse now, but it isn't any better.

Someone please help!!!!!!

As much as I hate to say this, do see a doctor. If he tells you you can no longer step again then find another doctor. Personal experience.

Just make sure your footwear is appropriate. Otherwise, all bets are off.

Marla, I think I have been talking myself out of going to the doctor. My husband says it will get better by icing it everyday. I think it helps but I don't know if that is the solution.

Kim, I replied to your post in the DVD questions section. If it's not getting any better, do see a doctor. Wishing you good health.

Pinky:)

Go see a doctor. Go see a doctor. Go see a doctor.

What are you afraid of? Go see a doctor.

Even if you heal yourself on your own, you might end up doing something and reinjuring yourself. Go see a doctor! ;)

I worked for a podiatrist for 10+ years. It isn't likely a huge thing to fix or anything- as long as you're getting better, you likely aren't talking surgery or anything- just maybe some pointers on how to heal faster and stronger.

Is it the bottom of your foot, like plantar fasciitis? Something like that is pretty low-maintenance to fix over time. Orthotics might be prescribed. Go see a doctor!

Go see a doctor!!!!! ;) And good luck.

All the best,

Hi Amy,

I've had plantar facilicis in this same foot and it hurt on the bottom of my foot. This pain is in the tendon on the back of my heal. But pinky should me a website where I found some information on foot pain. both achilles tendonitisa and Plantar F. have similiar symptoms except for the plantar is more at the bottom of the foot. But it could be either one. I will more and likely go to the doctor . Also I have asked this question in another post, but should I see a regular doctor first or go straight to a podiatrist?

Also pinky, thanks for the direction of the website, I will read more later.

Thank you Amy. Hope I not asking too many questions for any of you.

I admit I'm biased, but I'd go straight to a podiatrist. I'd specifically look for someone qualified to do more mechanical things, versus a podiatrist that looks at old diabetic feet all day... (;) I can say that because I'm diabetic...)

There is a website somewhere where you can look people up. I'll go try and find it, then post again.

Okay first off, I should never have said that about old diabetic feet. I'm feeling very guilty. I have seen a LOT of feet, though. They don't get prettier when you get older, diabetic or not!!

Sorry, I'll try and get back on track. The above link just has information you probably already have. I couldn't find the website I was looking for. You can always research your specialist, by googling the name or looking at a credentialling board in your state and the specialty board, like the American Board of Podiatric Medicine.

Of course, if you like and trust your doctor, you can always call them and ask them for a recommendation!

Good luck!

Okay everybody I finally did it, I made an appointment with a podiatrist this morning. I am really so nervous that my hands are shaking tell this. Hopefully it won't be a big deal. Everyone pray that medicine and simple techniques is all I have to deal with. I have a beach trip for the week of the 4th. I do not want anything screwing this up. Nervous is all I can say.

I will let you know when I get back how it went.

Yikes! Yikes!

Have you considered seeing a Physical Therapist? A lot of times they have more training in muscular-skeletal issues and can diagnose and treat many of these problems. They also treat the entire body and can show you exercises (if necessary) to help with rehab. You might be surprised at how much they can help you with foot issues as well!

Kim- good for you. I hope you feel, afterwards, that it was so good that you wish you had gone sooner! I heard that a lot when I was working in the office. I'll be thinking of you!
Take care.

Kim - glad that you took the plunge and decided to see someone. I always go to the doc when I start to question whether I need to. Err on the side of caution!

Good Luck
Christine :)

Hey everyone I decided to make an appt. today and I actually got a lunch time appt. They said I had a lot of inflammation and wanted to try some simple solutions first. They said for me to ice it as much as possible throughout the day and the biggie was that I was going to have to rest. BooHoo!!! I also have to take a bunch of motrin. If there is a such thing as getting high off of motrin, then I will be. Ha! They also put some insoles for my shoes. It feels good. I was just starting to do leg work standing, because I am stubborn. So I will stick to floor work. This is so darn depressing. I will make it though.

They want to see me every week for a while, until things get better. If things don't work with the motrin and icing, they will do an ultra sound.

Thanks for encouraging me to go to the doctor.

Kim-
I'm glad to hear it sounds like you were doing just the right thing!! But I'm also glad you went to see a professional.
The toughest part, I know, will be to make it through the "stay off it" part. ICK!!!
You can do it. Best of luck, and here's hoping you heal fast!!
