Should I get a new step?

Hello everyone!

I am fairly new to Cathe's work outs and have been using a smaller home step from Wal-Mart. My question is should I move on and invest in a larger, regular club step? I have not gotten a high step but plan on getting one in the future and know that the risers are interchangeable so I am trying to decide, which to buy, club step with just the high step topper or just get a high step.

Also do many of you do the step work outs with all four risers? My current step only has one set of two. I consider myself an advanced exerciser and eventually I think I might want to up my cardio once I get all of Cathe's steps down. Is this a realistic plan?

Sorry for all the questions; I think I am in the same boat that most of you are in, $$ is tight and I would rather save where I can so that I can buy more Cathe DVD's!!}( ;)

Hi Melissa,

The full-size step is a great investment. Cathe's step workouts use the whole step - lots of over-the-top moves and fast tapping moves that you'd be most comfortable performing on the longest, widest platform. Also, if you buy her strength tapes, the step is used as a bench.

The High Step is a great accessory but not as necessary as the full-size step, IMO. Until I got one, I used my old Firm wooden boxes, and a lot of people who have Firm equipment use the fanny lifter.

Step height is really a matter of personal preference, as well as ability, your height, leg length, knee strength...you can probably do a search for "step height", there have been quite a few threads about it. I use 4" (no risers) or 6" (one riser per side).

The Reebok step IS cheaper but its risers don't work with the High Step, should you decide to buy that later. I used the Reebok step for years but it is shorter and narrower than the club step - I found it hard to use as a weight bench because either my head or my butt hung over one edge (I'm 5'7-1/2"). I found good prices on the club step at fwonline.com and fitness1st.com. Just my two cents again...

Just got one from fitness1st and shipping was really quick!!! Plus they have the gray and black club step which I liked better.

Thanks for all your help everyone; I think I will get the full club step and save my $$ to get the topper for the riser later.

Hi!
I think I can relate to your dilemma as I once owned a tiny step platform. I found that I can't get much cardio benefit from it since it does not allow me to travel on it for a greater range of motion. I didn't get quite a workout because due to the small surface, my heartrate did not go where I want it to, and cardio wise, the workout was less intense. Then, I got my Reebok step and it was the best fitness investment I ever made.

I got my Reebok step way before I found Cathe's videos. If not, I would have gotten the Original Club step because I could use the risers to use with the High Step (which I am planning to purchase soon). I think you'd save some money by buying the club step and the high step topper. You'll appreciate the large surface of the club step when doing Cathe's step videos, making your workouts more fun and effective :)
