Shorts for short people-sequel to capri thread

I enjoyed reading the capri thread that was written earlier this week. I need suggestions on shorts for short people (I'm 5 1"). I am getting very frustrated because they are either too tight in the legs and loose in the waist or too tight in the waist, etc. Last year, I just bought skirts to avoid the problem, but now my shorts (the 3 pairs that I have) are wearing out and I need some new ones. Any help with specific brands/styles would be VERY much appreciated! Thanks.

I am always frustrated trying to find shorts, capris and pants. (I'm 5'2"). I wear a small size and usually have to shop in the jr. dept., however I'm 37 and don't feel comfortable in shorts that are halfway up my butt! The best luck I've had is at places like TJ Maxx because they carry so many different designers. It's kind of a pain because you have to try on 5,000 pairs of shorts, but when you find a pair to fit it's worth it! So if you have a store near you, check it out. Also, Ltd. Express and Esprit usually have decent fitting stuff.

Good luck and happy shopping! :)

I am about 5'1" or 5'2". I am not pear shaped. I have narrow hips and a larger waist than I'd like! My denim shorts are Levis 512 slim fit. I also have cotton "Union Bay" shorts that I got in a junior department in Kaufmanns.

Aside from these shorts really, I always shop in petite stores or departments. Have you tried any of these?

Petite Sophisticates tends to have a more straight cut with a larger waist and Liz Claiborne tends to have a more "pear" cut.

I am not crazy about Capri pants myself. I feel like they cut my already short legs into smaller sections, making them look even shorter! I am a little surprised (just a little) that they continue to be SO popular.

Jeanne:

I am glad someone else thinks Capris are not so great. I was starting to believe I was the only one.

I am five feet tall and have tried on a million styles of Capri pants and I think they make me look ludicrous. I don't need pants that chop off at the mid calf, making my legs appear even shorter than they already are. I think Capris look okay on taller people but they will not be in my wardrobe. I too am surprised they remain so popular.

I have narrow hips and not a tiny waist so I guess I am not a pear shape. I have found that Victoria's Secret has a good selection of denim shorts that look well on me. Various inseams are available, from non-existent to 5 inches. I like a three to five inch inseam and have several of these denim shorts in various colors. If someone as a very tiny waist compared to the hip area, though they will not work. You would find too much room in the waistband and too tight further down.

I wear a size 2 in Victoria's Secret pants. My hips are 34 inches and my waist is 25 inches.

Hope this helps.

Count me in as one who is NOT a fan of capri pants. I am not short either. I am 5'7" tall, yet I just don't find them flattering on anybody. It's funny, but I have heard a lot of men say they don't care for them on women at all. (Not that we dress to please men, but it is interesting to hear this from their perspective!)

I wear size 2 slim Victoria's Secret shorts (and pants) also! They fit me great. I have 34 inch hips and a 24 inch waist. The only thing I have to be careful of is the inseam on the shorts. I am 45 years old, and those short shorts just don't look appropriate on me anymore. VS is a great place to find smaller clothing!

Ugh.. capri's... don't like 'em either. I'm too short (5'2") to wear them. They look silly on me. I too am surprised at how popular they are. My husband calls them flood pants :)

I get shorts at REI or SportMart or Oshman's. I like hiking/walking shorts because they're not too-too short

RE: Why capris don't look good

I was sitting here thinking about this capri style (I guess I really don't have enough to do today, huh?) and trying to figure out what exactly makes them so hard for women to wear.

I am picturing tall thin women in them and still come to the conclusion that they are not flattering for them either. I have seen them in fashion magazines on the supposedly ideal female figure and must admit I still find them pretty ungainly.

It's the bagginess. The current style of capri features a very wide leg. I remember capris were popular in the 1980's but they were much more tapered all the way down and looked better. I even had a pair or two of those myself (of course, they have long ago been discarded).

I suppose capris will continue to be popular because they do hide a multitude of things for those that wear them and it is a compromise between long pants and shorts. I just wish the cut would different, that is, more to enhance the figure than they do now.

capris

Just wanted to say to all of you who don't like capris, most of my guy friends have mentioned (at seperate times) that they hate capris! They just do not like them.
The other day there was this really pretty, "perfect" looking girl walking by and they commented on her, but said "Why do girls wear those pants? They're so ugly!"

RE: Why capris don't look good

Ooh yay! Someone else who agrees that modern capris don't look good! (I think they're also a bit too long, I like them to be slim fitting and ending right below the knee, not mid-calf.)

I used to hate capris too, but I have found a few pairs that look good on me (at least my DH says so!) but they are low rise and the length is about mid-shin. They're not my favorite style but they cover more of my ghostly white legs and the patch of spider veins on my left thigh!

I second the Vicotria's Secret recommendations - they have excellent fitting stuff for smaller people. I've bought several styles of their pants and shorts. I wear a 0, my waist is 24 and my hips are 33.

Personally, I think the ugliest thing ever designed for women is those high waist mid thigh lycra bike shorts - they don't flatter anyone!

Okay, I personally like capris because they have a vintage look. I always thought MTM looked great int hem on the ##### Van Dyke Show. Of course, she is rather long legged. Anyway, what I hear is that for short people capris are best if they are longer-- falling just a few inches from the ankle. This does not chop the leg up so much.
I guess I just don't care what guys think!
