I have been using a pair of running shoes to do strength training stuff (FIRM videos - my first Cathe video is on its way!!) and I feel like they aren't supportive enough.
What kind of shoes should one wear for muscle building/strength training activities?
I prefer to buy shoes not made in China (which is next to impossible with athletic shoes except for hiking boots) - any brand recommendations would be welcome.
I wear really good running shoes for everything, even though I'm not a runner. They are just the most comfortable to me. Have you bought new ones lately? They will wear and become uncomfortable/less supportive. Cathe used to wear Ryka's - guess she still does. Those are good shoes but don't fit my foot. They are shoes designed by women, for women but they forgot about women with long, skinny feet and narrow, narrow heals!!!
i KNOW i'm going to be the minority.....
but i workout BAREFOOT!!!!
hubby has a demanding schedule (read - very unhelpful around the house!) and i chase after the kids all day.
i feel lucky to even get my time to workout - i hate to waste even a minute strappin' on sneakers!
silly, i know...but my feet dont give me a bit of trouble
when i went to road trip last yr i wore shoes for the classes and boy did that feel wierd!
At the gym, I wear a discontinued pair of Ryka crosstrainers with a low, "non-squishy" heel. However, I sneak them off and go stocking footed for all of my squats.
At home, I go barefoot for a lot of lifting and kettlebell work.
Some people like the Converse Chuck Taylor for strength work since it has a hard sole. I know of others who use Vibram Five Fingers because they emulate barefoot...I actually want to try these out.
I absolutely love my Nike Frees, which simulate barefoot training. However, they are made in China. I wear them for strength, cardio, kickbox & step workouts. I also go barefoot for KB work and have no issues.
