Shoe question

Cathlete
I am in serious need of a new pair of gym shoes. I've noticed that when I use Cathe videos and my current (old) shoes, the arches of my feet get sore. So my question is - do you have a favorite brand of shoe? This may sound stupid, but should I get cross-trainers? They will be used for my elliptical and step workouts.

Thanks!

I also got some Freddy's. Someone on this forum recommended them. I love these & have had no heel or forefoot pain since. I used to use Nikes, two different types of crosstrainers but I started suffering from burning at my forefoot from all the jumping I guess. Anyway, they are not very cool-looking according to my DH , but what the heck? I want comfort & cushioning.

Hi Amy!
I'm yet another one that got a few pairs of Freddy shoes. I ordered them through the same website that Carole posted. Honestly, they are the MOST comfortable pair of workout shoes I have ever worn.....ever!!!:7 I used to wear New Balance, and I still like them but for serious workouts I will never go back to anything else. I have 2 pairs (different styles) and they both fit perfectly.....the lateral support is just unmatched by any other shoe IMHO!!

Hope that helps!!

Mine say Freddy 3Pro. Now I'm gonna get another pair in Black since Sandy has two. Can't let her outdo me!}(

I just went to the above site. I think I got it here too. It's the one that says high impact step shoe. It comes in black & white.

Marla you crack me up, LOL!!!!! A little competitive I see....}( :p !!

Hi Writer! The two styles I got were the Cardio Step Trainer in black and the High Impact step trainer in white. They are both great shoes and I HIGHLY recommend them:7 :7 !

i workout in my ryka shoes which i have had for a very long time. cathe uses them. after the workout the tape/dvd is the excerpts(if i spelled that right) that mentions what shoes she uses.

The return of arch pain is indeed a ssign that you need new workout shoes. I would get the shoe for the activity you do most. A step and high impact shoe will see you for the elliptical. I would rather do that than get a cross trainer.

I use Rykas, have done for the last 4 years and I currently use the Ryka Rhythm to good effect.

Hi!

For those of you with the Freddy's. How do they fit? True to size? Would they be good if you have a wider foot? Thanks!

Nicole

Hi Nicole! Just to let you know they DEFINITELY run bigger, about 1/2 size. I usually take a 7 in workout and dress shoes but I had to go with a 6.5 but they fit perfectly well. As far as whether or not they fit well on a wider foot I am not sure but go to the link that is posted at the top of this thread and send them an email...this company is really good about answering questions in a timely manner, their customer service is great!

Actually I have a pretty wide foot myself but the website advised to go 1/2 a size smaller anyway. I was a bit apprehensive but they turned out great.

Hi Amy,

I usually wear either Ryka's or NB crosstrainers. Right now I have been switching between my NB 609's and Ryka Enlight. I have tried a lot of different shoes and these two brands seem to work the best for me. I would recommend these styles if you have a narrow foot.

I'm so glad I saw this thread. I recently bought some Nike Shox high top (not basketball, but kid's size shoes) and my pain has already returned after only 2 months of almost daily workouts. I'm so mad! My pain is not in the arch-it runs down the outside of my foot, between heel and ball. Anyone else have this? I tried buying the arch support things, but they made the shoes too tight to wear. I have been doing my elliptical time barefoot! (I have my own, I don't go barefoot at the gym lol)

Can you buy these Freddy shoes at a retail store somewhere? (I'm in Wisconsin). I am very nervous to order online because of sizing.
One thing-I HAVE to have high tops due to chronically sprained ankles!

Hi Pedmom,

I am in Wisconsin too - Milwaukee to be exact. Nice to meet a fellow Wisconsite here on the boards. I had never heard of Freddy shoes until yesterday - I guess that shows my lack of an athletic background...but anyhow I do not know if they have a local distributor. You could try to call them and see - otherwise check out what their return policy is just incase. Lots of places have great return policies...so you might be ok.

Good luck to you!

Amy

Hello fellow Wisconsinites! I live in Waukesha. Marie 1120 is another Wisconinite.

I just got New Balance 853 CT's for Christmas from Atheletes Foot. I need the wider width. So far they have been great. Rykas for some reason don't fit right in my heel.

By the way, GO PACK GO!! Can't believe we made it to the playoff's. Gotta play those **** Vikings again!! But we'll beat em.
