Shaq's new show

Did anyone see this show last night? At first I thought "good for him for trying to help these kids." Then I saw that he decided to let them workout on their own with no trainers around I thought to myself "he doesn't have a clue". These kids are 14 years old - they aren't going to workout if nobody's there to tell them what to do. Even adults that are morbidly obese need a motivational trainer there to keep them going (at least in the beginning). I was glad to see that he's going to have a trainer involved now. Anyway, what are your opinions?

I saw the show. I was amazed at how heavy and how bad these kids ate. I agree that he was really naive to think that they would do the workout on their own. I think it's really cool that he's planning to do the diet along with them. I can't wait to see their progress and what they look like in the end.

I saw part of it but didn't catch the ending. It brought tears to my eyes because I feel so bad for kids that get teased. I like what Shaq is trying to do and I hope he follows up with them and somehow keeps them on track to get fit. I just wanted to give each of those kids a big hug and a high five for trying but felt bad for those that couldn't do one push-up. (I was actually talking to the TV telling Shaq to start them out on their knees!)

We watched the show too and I think it's great what Shaq is doing. I, also, was quite surprised that they would leave the young kids ALONE! How would they know what to do correctly or even how to stay motivated on their own? I'm glad he decided to hire a PT for them. Can't wait to see their transformations.

I saw the show too and I think it is great. Granted, he has a lot to learn about what it is going to take to help these kids, but I think he's on the right path now. Childhood obesity is such an epidemic - I'm so thankful that Shaq is shining a national spotlight on this problem and bringing the reality and consequences of our current "highly processed/fast food lifestyle" to the forefront. It will be interesting to see how much headway he makes with the school district and Governor of FL. Hopefully it will make some parents think twice about stopping for fast food for dinner every night. Maybe. . .??

I agree totally w/you Kim re Shaq not having a clue. He's not a trainer & doesn't know the first thing about it. I couldn't believe he left those kids to workout by themselves. Of course they weren't going to do anything. I also didn't like the fact that HE was working out in the gym when he should've been working out AFTER he trained the kids. Kids also had a real eye opener in regards to the nutritionist. It has to start in the home first. I just hope/pray that the parents get & stay on board for the health of these kids. That's my .02 anyway. Kathy

PS: It took my own son who's now 15 to finally "get it." He's lost a lot of weight & works out everyday & eats right. Thank God!:D

I loved the show. The issue resonated with me deeply since I spent the better part of my childhood morbidly obese.

I think Shaq just wanted to see what kind of motivation they had alone...I don't think he would have just completed left him to their own devices.

I think Shaq is very witty and funny. I really enjoyed how he interacted with the kids. It was great.

I'm ready! I'm ready! I'm ready!

I watched the show last night with my kids. My opinion is they knew exactly what the kids were going to do, but how many parents do exactly what Shaq did?! These kids may be home alone after school and get the same type of call from their parents and answer in the same way. It was their (the shows) way of showing that they (the kids) need supervision, they can't do this on their own. I really like the show so far. They seem to be attacking the weight issue from all different angles - home, school, parents, family and of course the kids. On his web site there is info on everything from how to make better fast food choices to forms on how to get your school to make better choices (petitions). I really hope this turns out to be better than The Biggest Loser where a year later the contestants are creeping up on their original weight.

I was so glad to see a show about this. I was always overweight as a child and understand the low self-esteem and constant remarks from schoolmates. I think he will do a good job with this. Does anyone else remember that President's fitness test? I absolutely hated it. We had to do it during our middle school years (6th, 7th, and 8th). Had to run the mile, do the sit-ups, push-ups, and pull-ups. The push-up requirement of how low you have to go (for us it was being able to touch the person's fist with our chest when we went down). Even the "fit" athletic kids couldn't go that low. I hated running the mile. I ususally walked half of it because I was so out of shape.
