Seperated stomach muscles

Hello,
I had tripets 6 years ago. I am thin, in shape, and work out hard. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get my stomach muscles, that seperated during the pregnancy, to go back together again. (there is a name for the condition, but I forgot it) I have tried wrapping a tight band around my middle while doing the slow crunches which is what I was told would fix it. My stomach is flat, but I wonder what I can do to fix the problem. I feel my core will always be weak if I can't. Maybe it can't be done?? Am I messing things up more by doing the core routines? I would apprecaite any help you can give me. Thank you very much!

Hi!

I had twins last October (13 pounds of baby) and I also had Diastatis. (I am also thin and workout like crazy) I actually saw a plastic surgeon right before I had hernia surgery to see if I should had my abs repaired and she said to do pilates for 6 months before I even think about doing ab work. It has already gotten a lot better.

I would definitely ask your doctor about it because the condition can vary. I wouldn't do any ab work until you talk to them.

On another note -CONGRATS to you! I cannot imagine more than twins! You are a super woman - always remember that!!!

Here are some interesting websites to explore about it...

Hi,

I am the mom of 2 1/2 year old twins, and I wanted to also pipe in and say Congrats! Multiples are a challenge, but the rewards are also compound.

After I had my twins I read Julie Tupler's book, Lose Your Mummy Tummy. In it she gives detailed exercises to do to repair your diastisis. She also sells a splint that you can get to wear. I don't have the splint, but it was designed so you could wear it under your clothes as well as use it during her exercises. Her website is www.maternalfitness.com , she also has a DVD of the same name. I have posted about this on the Pregnancy forum if you want further details about it. I'm no good at giving links, or I'd put them here for you!!

Enjoy those babies and take care!
Tricia
