I want to take a self defense class and found this company in my area. They have a website and say the are found nationwide. Does anyone know anything about this program?

I was running last night and on my way home, one block from my apartment, a man pulled over in his car towards me. He unrolled his window and was leaning my way. I ran the opposite direction towards a local grocery store and watched him turn around and follow me. I went to the front of the store just to watch the car stall in front of the store. I know he was looking for me and couldn't see me where I was standing. I am fine but shook up a little. I called the cops and left a report of the incident. I live in a very nice area not prone to crime, although crime can happen anywhere. DH and I run around town all the time and never had any problems. I don't want to be parinoid in my own town, but I want to arm myself with knowledge. I've been meaning to take a self defense class forever and never have. Well hopefully I can find a good one, oh and I'm buying some mace today!

Well that is just downright scary. This is one of the reasons I don't run as much anymore. Glad you're OK!

I took a ju jitsu class for several years. A lot of it focused on street fighting & boxing. Not to mention an awesome workout. It was phenomenal--I learned quite a bit. It was run by a senseii who had a dojo in the back of his house. I had to go through an interview process & a fit test before he'd accept me into his class.

One of the things I did when I took this class was go around to different women's groups w/my senseii for demonstrations (I wasn't that great, it's just that I was the only woman in the class LOL). We always had to explain to them that just b/c they lived in a good neighborhood they weren't any safer. Try to think like a criminal here--if you're gonna rob someone (or worse), are you gonna do it in a poor neighborhood or a rich one?

Personally I'd recommend going to a private instructor rather than a chain. And frankly I can't tell you why I recommend this other than I'm always suspicious of chains--it's like McKarate or something. But I bet Karate Chick has much more valuable input on this than I do. :)
