HI all! Just thought I would share that I am starting to see results again FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! :-jumpy

I figured some of you might be interested to know of some positive results with reduced cardio since there have been a lot of discussions on the topic. It makes me think about giving BodyRx a try???

I decided to cut down on my cardio thanks to some tips I have learned on this board. For the past 2 wks I have been doing 4 days of cardio a week and have been focusing more strength and endurance!!!!!!!!!

Prior I was doing cardio 5-7 days a week thinking it was the only thing that would help me lose the fat! Now I am focusing on intensity and duration of cardio versus frequency.

I went to the gym tonight to learn I lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks! I am not sure what the true cause is but I think a lot of it might have to do with the decreased cardio and focus on strength. I also just finished up an S&H rotation where I saw great results with muscle mass and definition! So, maybe the increased muscle is helping me burn the fat?? I have been focused on "burning out" 1-2 muscles per day and then 1 day of total body like PH at the end of the week.

I have also been eating a lot better and following some of the BodyRx guidelines the past 2 weeks so that could have something to do with it???

My rotation has included Circuit Max approx. 1-2 times a week plus IMAX & MIC. On the 4th cardio day I usually do one of the CTX or cardio kicks, or another fun one etc. and try to take it down a bit. I have also seen these results with a decreased step riser due to some knee problems I was having.

Anyway, it has been a fun rotation and obviously something is working! I will try to document it and share it here on the board if anyone is interested??

I know that due to the decreased frequency of the cardio my body is more pumped up to really work it hard during cardio and that I am getting more out of it! Now, I look forward to my cardio days even more than I did before.

p.s. I think I am a meso/endo or ecto/endo?? I look a lot like Cedie (well... what she use to look like... I only DREAM of looking like what she looks like in the new series!!)

RE: Seeing results!! Decreased Cardio S&H

Wow ! :-wow Pammer ! That is brilliant ! There is hope for me then, now I have MIS, and PH !! :D

I have heard that cutting carbs out after 5pm helps with weight loss too ? So you eat the majority of them during the day.

Well done ! Keep up the good work !

Anna :)

That's really great to hear! :)

I'm one of those who are really afraid to "give up" a day of cardio, but I'm really interested to see how it might effect me to do less cardio and more strength?

Question~

You say you were doing S&H + PH as your total strength day so I'm wondering when and how you plugged in Circuit Max? Did you use CM without weights as a cardio only, or did you use it w/weights? And were some days cardio only, or did you still do cardio + weights on some days?

RE: Seeing results!! Decreased Cardio S&H

Pammer - nice work! And thank you for sharing, this gives me hope. You're rotation sounds similar to what I'm doing these days. I would be very interested to see your rotation documented here. :)

Congratulations Pammer! That is terrific. I also am a meso/endo and would like to see results. Keep us posted on your success.

RE: Seeing results!! Decreased Cardio S&H

I too would love to see the rotation you followed. I wanted to do one more S&H rotation before the new Intensity Series arrives and prefer to hit each muscle group twice a week.

I don't need to lose 'weight', but would like to lose some accumulated flab around the tummy and thighs. I've heard lots of positive results with less cardio, but am another one who is afraid to give up a cardio day. Right now, I do cardio 5 days a week. If you could post the rotation you've been following lately that would be great!

Thanks,
Nicole

Boy, I must be a lazy girl because to me, doing MIC, Imax, Circuit Max, and a CTX cardio all in one week would not be cutting down on cardio. For me, that is a full week! You must have gobs of energy! I am jealous, but very happy for you. What were your eating habits the past 2 weeks, if you don't mind me asking...

What step height were you using, and what height are you using now? Has it helped a lot with your knee issue?

Edith

Way to go Pammer! Your reving up your metabolism w/all this strength training. Cardio will last for a short period of time for fat burning where strength training lasts the entire day even while your sleeping! That's why you've seen a 5# loss. Also eating 6 meals a day will continuously burn the fat. My cardio too is much more stronger since I've cut it down even further than you have. I'm only doing cardio 1-1/2 hrs. a week!! I also do Circuit Max, IMAX, Rhythmic Step, etc. It must be intense since we're doing it less. Keep up the great work and remember DO NOT DO CARDIO THE SAME DAY AS WEIGHT TRAINING. Try to lift even heavier now that you've finished your rotation of S&H. Try to do more sets and reps than you have been. Good luck and let us know how your progressing. Best, Kathy

Forgive me but I am a little confused on a couple of things.

First of all what body type do you think I am: I am 5'1", 123 pounds, NOT big busted (boo hoo), thicker hips and butt. Small waist. Med. in arm size.

Second, I am getting confused about the cardio thing. I have read alot about lower intensity but longer duration for fat burning. Is that true? Or is short (30 min) intense cardio the same?

I have got all this information and all the tapes but I REALLY am having a hard time finding the true magic for my body.
I need to lose about 5-6 pounds. Just that layer of fat covering my muscles. PLEASE HELP ME KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!

PS I watch my eating pretty well. In fact, I may not eat enough.

Pammer and Edith

Pammer, Congrats! I rarely do more than 4 days of cardio a week. When doing S&H it is sometimes only 3. That series is awesome. When you aren't pounding it out every day you have more energy for really intense workouts on the days you do cardio.

Edith, I have had to lower my step height to 4" because of my knees. Cathe's workouts are so intense that it doesn't affect it much at all. Listen to your body. I still want to be steppin' when I'm 80!

Hi Slenamond! It could be true that your not taking in enough calories. I'm tiny (5'2" 110#s) and small boned. The more cardio you do the less muscle definition you'll have. CTX series cut my body fat because I was doing cardio 5x a week, however, my muscle definition was decreasing. Try measuring yourself everywhere. Then as an experiment try cutting back on your cardio to 2-3x a week; but increasing the weight training. Eat 6 meals a day making sure to eat protein and fiber w/every meal. That's going to incorporate a lot of meat & veggies & fruits & grains. NO SUGAR especially HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP! This is the ingredient that makes people fat. Make your weight training challenging & using excellent form always. Do this for 6 wks. and then measure yourself again and gauge it also by your clothes. Are they getting looser? I personally prefer to do 30 min. of intense cardio and will do just that on Sat. afternoon, but will incorporate an intense cardio on Mon. There's no magic; unfortunately you just have to experiment to see what works for you. Good luck! Kathy

RE: Pammer and Edith

Pammer, or Pammer, where are you??? I would really like to see that S&H rotation you did so I could start Monday on it. Hope to see you this weekend??!!! You have inspired me!!

Hi J.Bean!
I agree with you...that would be a lot of cardio for me too! The ladies on this board are awesome! I wish I could do that much! Even the amount of weights they squat is pretty impressive. I remember thinking 25 lbs was heavy when FIRMING until I saw Cathe's barbell!!! Some of them are over their 40s as well and so inspiring. I love reading about their posts on how fit and strong they've gotten just with the workouts!

What exactly is BodyRx. I have seen it mentioned numerous times in this forum I know I look it up on the website but I am being lazy and just wanted some feedback from you.

Hi,
Body RX is a book. There are discussion groups on it too. I checked it out at Chapters. It recommends that you take in 1 gram of protein/lb of body weight and 2grams Carbs/lb BW and then depending on the CYCLE you are in, there are fiber recommendations as well. It has tables of recommended Carbs and Proteins ( basically clean eating...chicken breast, low glycemic carbs lots of fiber ) and sort of like a periodization type of Lifting. It looks like it requires gym style lifting because the lower body exercises consists of leg presses, hamstring curls and leg extensions and donkey calf raises. Some have modified it using Cathe workouts. It looks like you can eat a lot on it which is a good thing. The author sounds like he really knows his stuff when he answers questions on the discussion groups. He was with Met RX previously.
