Seated vs. standing?

Question for you all.... :)

I just did MM tonight, and Cathe did the seated tricep over head press with one dumbbell, I prefer sometimes to do them standing, but is there any advantage to doing them while seated? Is the exercise harder or just works better when seated?

Thanks!

I don't neccesarily know why, but doing upper body moves whiles seated is always harder for me. If she does them seated, I definitely do the same.

I'm thinking maybe if you're standing it's easier to use your core and legs to complete/assist the move. Being seated allows you to concentrate the move more where you should.

Hey Dela:

I'm not exactly sure either, but I do notice that when I stand, I have a tendancy to arch my lower back and stick out my butt when moving in the down direction... I would rather do them seated so that I can keep my back in check and concentrate on the form of my tri's.. but I can also see the need to engage the core when doing the standing move so you don't get the sway back and bootie stickin' out! :p

The move is slightly harder when seated. If you find this to be a difficult move, then just do it standing. If you are OK with this move, then try it either seated on chair or on stability ball to engage the core more.
