Sciatica

Hope everyone out there is feeling good.
I'm now in my 32nd week, and up until about a week ago I was keeping up a pretty consistent exercise routine. Then I started noticing pain in my lower back, which has worsened somewhat and now spreads down my right leg, as well. I went to my OB yesterday, and she told me it's sciatica. I was shocked--I guess I thought that if I was in good shape I was "home free" from all those aches and pains. I guess not; the doctor told me it has less to do with the mother's physical condition and more to do with how the baby is engaged in the pelvis....
I have a physical therapy appointment for next week, but until then, does anyone have any tips for alleviating the discomfort, etc.? Heating pads don't seem to help much, but having DH give me a massage seems to help a *little.* I have just been taking it easy, but I have to admit I feel like a big ol' lump after not exercising for a few days....x(
