Is that beautiful art in your picture trail yours? If so, you are very good! Do you paint for a living? I paint but I am not as proficient as you in terms of technique, due to not do it often. I have done few works, but I want to get serious and do more and do it for a living.

Wow,

Thank you so much. I'm touched that you think they're so good :D. And nobody's started a thread just for me before :D :D.

They are mine. I decided that I was going to start documenting my stuff, just because it almost always ends up going away at some point. I don't paint for a living, but I've sold a couple of pictures. The self-portrait was the first one I've done in 4 years. I started taking classes to keep me up on my work, or I'd never do anything. But I think I found a teacher who has a lot more to offer than just a workload. I will update my pictures when this class is over.

What kinds of things do you paint, Mariela? Will you show some of it? Practice and a good teacher make a world of difference if you want to improve. You need someone who won't be afraid to criticize you and, most importantly, be able to tell you what to do to fix it. I am considering going in the art direction, as well. It makes me happy, and little else does in life these days.

Oh, and my mom is an artist, and we're more than willing to criticize the pants off eachother! :D It helps, truly.

Thanks again so much! I'm giddy now :D

Sara, I agree with Mariela. Your work is AWESOME, girl! I won't be surprised if I'll read about your works and your life in one of those slick art books one day. I believe those two pictures you've sold is just the beginning. And how lucky you are to have your mom as your critic, and a constructive, positive one to boot.:)

Well, when I was 16 years old (I am 27 now)I took a one year course on oil painting. But we spent about ten months in drawing, pastel, etc. I actually only did two oil paintings during the course. It was good at the time because I never took classes before, but the teaching was somewhat chaotic and experimental. (Which is good, but...) I actually never really learned a technique. I do it intuitively and somewhat disorganized. (I'm talking about the crafts here.) I can "see" accurately and that is what makes my paintings look decent enough, but I need to improve the craft aspect. I too have sold a couple of pictures.

My favorite thing to paint is the human figure. I'm not really into landscapes. I like to put a "magical touch", experiment with texture and effects, and I like color (that is very general, I know). I like the work of Norman Rockwell and Vincent Van Gogh. And I admire and hope I will some day have the spontaniety of Velazquez to paint the human figure. Occasionally I will add unrealistic and fantasy elements. Really, I sound like a professional when I talk, but really, I have a long way to go.

Anyway, my email is [email protected] if you want to keep in touch.
