Satalite Internet

Hey there, Ladies! Quick question for you...Does anyone have satalite internet? What do you think?? Is it REALLY that much faster than "regular" dial up?? I've been debating between that or another phone line for some time, now...Let me give you some background...

I work from home 3 or 4 days a week, have the fax hooked up to the home line...I NEED to be able to talk on the phone and be on the computer at the same time (and typically know when a fax is coming in)...I DO NOT get cell phone reception in my basement, which is where the office is...DSL and high speed dial-up aren't availible where I live (anybody listen to country and heard the song Boondocks??). The fax machine can stay on the home line..

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I have direcway satellite and I just love it. Everything is instant..no waiting! It is fast. It is expensive, but we got it when I started selling alot on ebay which helped alot. I wouldn't go back for anything. I don't mind paying the extra.

Have you looked into cable? It's cheaper than satelite and faster than DSL. Call your cable company and see if they offer it.

I WISH we could get cable! Did you see my "Boondock's" comment? The lines stop 5 miles from my house (No cable, no DSL, not even high speed dial-up)...My options are SLOW dial-up or satalite...

Thanks for the other comment! I think we're just going to shell it out...I can write off part of the cost anyway...

Have a great day!

I am in a similar situation to you with living in the boondocks. I don't even have a land line telephone much less cable. Everything gets to me via satellite. I use direcway for satellite. The service is great....very high speed and reliable. The monthly fee is about $60.00. The big drawback is the initial hook up expense. You have to buy the satellite dish. The company does not rent it to you like some others. It can easily cost you $1000.00 initially. You should find out if there are any local companies in your area which offer satellite internet. If you are in line of sight of a tower it can be alot cheaper.

I can get it through a company that Direct TV uses (that's who my satalite TV is through)...It's about $600 for the equipment, then $60 a month...I called to get it set-up, they'll be here on Monday...

Thanks for the comments, Ladies!
