Dear San Diegans and anyone else in the area,

Just wanted to check to make sure that we're still on for lunch this Saturday at 11:30 at The Cheesecake Factory in Fashion Valley!

Looks like Lorrayne, Laura, Bekki, and me will be there. Can anyone else join us?:)

I'm really looking forward to it!:)

Thanks for posting this Leanne!

How about we all meet up at the Hostess station? I'll be easy to spot, since I look a lot like Cathe. (BWAHAHA!! Couldn't resist that one :+ )

See you Saturday!

Laura

Hooray! Sounds great! Well, I don't have a Cathe T-shirt and don't look anything like her :)+ ), so I'll just keep my eyes peeled for you two! :)

How depressing. I lived in San Diego for four years when I was in the Navy and have missed it ever since... Fashion Valley. God Lord, I blew so much money there between 1981-1984. Years ago, here in Columbus, Ohio, I worked evenings taking calls for a credit bureau, then Victoria's Secret, then JC Penney Catalog. In one of those jobs some guy on the phone told me the Navy has pretty much pulled out of San Diego and that they found out Naval Training Center (where I was stationed) was found to have been built atop a toxic waste site and had to be shut down. Is all that true?

SirenSongWoman,

Where exactly were you stationed? Navy still is here with thousands employed. In fact, SPAWAR moved out here from DC over 10 years ago.

Lorrayne

The Navy is still here and strong. We have been here now for 4 years (the longest we have been on any base). My husband was on the USS Ronald Reagan which was out of NAS North Island. He is off the ship now as of 3 weeks ago, as we are transferring in a month. I would come to the GTG, but we are having a garage sale this weekend.

We are moving to a naval base in Italy in July. So this month is the month of stress for me, movers, putting my SUV in storage, getting my dogs ready for such a long flight, etc. DH and I will be glad when the moving process is over.

I don't think the Navy will be leaving here anytime soon. NTC if you mean the Navy bootcamp, no, it is not still here, but the Marine Recruit Depot , I beleive is what took it's place. The NTC clinic is still open. This is where DH had his PKU eye surgery .

Hmm. So the NTC (on Rosecrans) clinic is still there but the rest of the NTC base is no more? I'm glad the Navy still has a presence in San Diego but I wonder what all else closed... So RTC is gone. I'm disappointed because I know RTC Orlando, Florida was closed, like, ten years ago, which leaves only Great Lakes, IL. When they closed Orlando I asked (yet another phone customer with whom I chatted) "Why would they close a fabulous NEWer facility and hang onto Great Lakes, which has been around since before WWII?" I can't remember the name of the Illinois congressman but he had a much bigger name (and greater influence) than the Florida congressman and I was told that's all it took. And San Diego was closed, too. Crazy.

So, LuvMyLabs, are you all going to Naples?

Way back in my Navy days I refused to date military guys because I didn't want to be a military woman with a military guy and all the hassles that come with it. Four years in San Diego with a 4-2-1 ratio of men to women... At 47 and VERY single I now look back and think 'Oh THAT was smart...'

Hi Sirensongwoman,

No not Naples, we are actually going to NAS Sigonella on the island of Sicily. We will be there for 3 years.

I understand about dating Navy guys, when DH and I first got married, we were dual active duty. Then I got out.

I love the Sigonella Navy base!!! I was there for a week for work last year and absolutely loved it! Much better than Naples. The scenery is breath taking. Seeing Mt. Etna was just awesome! I just wish I had more down time to explore more of the countryside.

Dear Lorrayne, Laura, and Bekki,

Just wanted to say that it was so wonderful meeting the three of you in person! I had such a great time!

We'll have to do it again sometime!:)

I am glad you all had a wonderful time. I am sorry I could not be there.

Lorrayne, I am looking forward to going to Sigonella. I am sure I will miss the states, as we will be in Sig for 3 years.

It sure was wonderful meeting both you, Laura, and seeing Bekki again. Yes, we definitely should get together again sometime!

Luvmylabs, hope you have a safe move to Sigonella. What a beautiful area you'll be living for the next 3 years. :)

We're sorry you couldn't make it either!:-( Good luck with your move to Italy!:)

It was great meeting you guys! It's nice to be able to talk about a Cathe obsession without people looking at you like you're some kind of nut :+ (Like my DH at times ;))

I'd love to do it again when schedules permit.

Laura
