Salad Dressing

Greetings Everybody,

Hope you are all off to a great New Year! My DH and I are trying to follow the ETL program. Not so much for weight loss, but for the health benefits. We love our greens and salads, but really need some suggestions for salad dressings.

Do you have any great healthy salad dressing suggestions? I like making home made, but store bought suggestions would be appreciated as well.

Have a Great Exercise Day!

Dianne

Hi Dianne. I recommend Newman's Lite Balsamic Vinegrette. It was recommended by my nutritionist, is all natural, and in my opinion tastes better than the full-fat version. It tastes so good, I would use it even if I didn't care about calories. For my huge, oversized entree salads I need only 4 tablespoons, which is less than 100 calories. For an ordinary side salad, you would need only about 2 tablespoons, which would be less than 50 calories.

Does that fit in with the ETL plan? I'm not familiar with that plan.

I agree that Newman's Lite Balsamic Vinegrette is great !

I have also been making a version from the Fat Flush book:

1 TB flaxseed oil
2 TB apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp granulated garlic

I absolutely love the tangy taste and the oil is very healthy. Then the garlic helps on the "boost your metabolism" side of things in addition to helping to "thicken" the dressing.

Hi Dianne,

I like to use olive oil and fresh lemon as a salad dressing. I squeeze the lemon over my salad first and then add the olive oil. I've also bought lemon infused olive oil, but the fresh lemon adds more bite. It's a very light dressing.

Plus another bonus is that I've almost always been able to get this at resturants when eating out.

Enjoy!

I go for balsamic vinegar and extra-virgin olive oil. I use about a teaspoon of olive oil and a couple tablespoons of balsamic. This is my absolute favorite taste. But beware that the balsamic vinegar tends to flip off the greens when you're eating and can really stain your shirt--maybe I'm the only one who is so spill-prone.

I also tried Annie's salad dressings and they are delicious.

P.S. I have read a few articles that say you need a little fat with your salad in order to absorb more of the nutrients, so I don't go for the fat-free salad dressings anymore--plus they're way too high in sugar.
