I was just wondering what it's like living in this area? We may be moving to Yuba City. Just wondering if it's a safe place for a family! I know it's way expensive to live, any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I live in North Sacramento. A beautiful, growing area. I don't know much about Yuba City, but I moved from Chico a few years ago and I LOVE Sacramento! I grew up in the Bay Area so I like a city that is always open. I like getting my Starbucks at 5am.:) I also like a town that has stores open at 6am on Saturday's if I'm up and want to shop. As far as crime goes, oh yeah, we have plenty of that. I'm not sure how we compare to other areas, but the local news if often filled with ugly news about what is going on in Sac; there is great news for the area too though. :) Luckily my area is still pretty nice. I walk my dog at 10pm if I want. The people (even the young thugish looking teens) greet you when you pass by so for the most part the people around where I live are o.k.. The worst problem in my neighborhood is the speeding. We do have idiots who like to hear their tires screech, so they zoom, then hit the breaks, zoom then hit the breaks. But all in all Sac is just another US City with a really popular (not always in a good way) Governor.

I know the Sacramento area well. Lived there for many years and my DH's family lives about 30 minutes outside Yuba City. I wouldn't recommend Yuba City (hope I'm not offending anyone, JMO). There isn't a lot to do in Yuba City itself and it's not a very pretty town. (Lots of old strip malls) Locals make the trek to Sacramento for shopping, entertainment, good restaurants. It's about 45 minutes north of Sacramento and traffic can be bad. I'd recommend Roseville, Rocklin or Lincoln before Yuba City. Those areas have a lot new parks, new schools and extensive shopping. Sacramento itself is very pretty and has some wonderful older neighborhoods ("Fabulous 40's", "Landpark" etc.) but they are more expensive. PM anytime if you have more questions. HTH and good luck!

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

DeeDee- Thanks so much for the info. You sound really enthusiastic about Sacramento. It makes me excited about moving there. I am surprised that stores open that early. That's awesome. As for the speeders, maybe I need to find a house in a cultisac!!! :) Thanks again for your input!

Jonahnah- I've been looking at the areas you mentioned and they look wonderful. I love the idea of good schools. We have a LO and that's one of my biggest concerns. It'd be nice to be closer to Sacramento too. I appreciate the input. :)I will pm you once I find out more if we are moving. :)Thanks so much.

Sacramento really is an awesome city. I love strolling through 'Old Sacramento' that looks like a page out of the old west.:) And around this time of the year there is so much to do.
Like the Bay Area, you need never be bored.

Great place to live, great place to shop. As far as crime goes, anywhere you have people you are going to have some sort of conflicts, which sucks but...

I telecommute a lot, so on those days I go into the office, I go in early. Starbucks and McDonlds are open at that time and the grocery stores open very early through out the week. The Safeway near me opens at 5:30AM...and Walmart is open at 6AM on Saturdays.

My very first weekend in Chico, I got up early and got out so that I could buy some drapes for my new home...I was out at about 7AM...and nothing was open.:) That was so weird to me. When we moved to Sacramento I was like, 'Ahhh, this is my kind of town'. :)

I am getting really excited about moving there. I really hope my husband gets an interview. We will find out more in a few months. I hear the weather is beautiful and I love the idea that the town opens really early. Where I live now, the mall doesn't even open till 10am and grocery stores not until 8am. I can't wait to see what will happen. How are the people there? Are they friendly?

The mall out here is The Arden Fair Mall and to be honest with you, I don't know what time it opens because I avoid that place at all cost. I love malls, but Arden Fair is in the wrong place and to me doesn't have nearly enough parking. It is located in a very, very and mean VERY busy street, the only time you can find parking is at about 8am and I usually go to the Barnes and Noble which is not part of the mall so I'm not even sure if the stores are open yet. During the holidays, the police are actually out in force directing traffic in the parking lot. I say forget it, there are many more places to spend my shopping time.

Well, I live in the Bay Area, and my favorite thing about Sacramento is that it means I'm almost to Tahoe! If you like the outdoors, you're bout 1.5 to 2 hours from some of the best skiing, mountain biking, hiking, boating, snow shoeing... in the country. Besides that it's a nice city and it's a lot cheaper than the Bay Area! Everyone I know who lives there really enjoys it.
