S&H twice a week?

AS SOON AS my darn Slow and Heavy videos get here, I am going to start using them daily. Since I am nursing an achilles tendon and consequently not doing any cardio for a couple of weeks, I am only going to do strength videos for now.

So, should I do S&H twice a week, or S&H once and the Pure Strength series once?

I consider myself a strength-training beginner still, so I'm wondering if S&H would just be too much to do twice a week.

What's your opinion?

Thanks!!

In the intro to the series, Cathe says to do it "once and no more than twice per week". I think it's fine to do it twice if you aren't doing anything else. It may get boring though, so it would be equally good to do it once and do PS once. Either way, each muscle group gets worked twice a week.

When I first tried S&H I loved it so much I thought I could do it twice a week. Then I woke up the next morning and was so sore I could barely move. :)

Give it a try once a week and see how it goes for you. I don't think there's anything wrong with doing it twice a week if you can handle it. For me it would be too much.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-03-03 AT 06:53PM (Est)[p]I wouldn't start out using it twice per week. At least 50% of strength gains come from rest and repair your muscles go through after stressing them. How about S + H once a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) and one total-body video once a week? (Saturday?).

You might later feel that S + H twice a week might work out for you, but try it once a week first. Also, you don't have to keep yourself tied to the calendar week. You could try doing the system three times every two weeks (1 1/2 times per week: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday, for example).

Also, if you do the workouts twice per week, you most likely won't be able to lift as heavy. If one of your goals is strength, then 1x/week might be preferable.

I've found that I personally get a better weight workout if I make sure to get enough rest between workouts, and sometimes will insert an extra day between weight workouts if I feel I'm not quite recovered from the last workout.

How about a body part a day? For example, do the Slow Heavy Chest section and supplement it with a few of the chest exercises from Pure Strength?
I really wouldn't do SH twice a week, though. If you really work hard and lift heavy, you might not get enough recovery time between workouts. If you want to hit body parts twice a week, I agree with the other poster who suggested doing SH once a week and doing an endurance tape like Power Hour.

My S&H tapes finally came today!!!

I think I will start out doing S&H once a week, and do a total body workout on Saturdays as suggested.

It's pretty easy to talk me out of doing too much when it comes to strength training. I'm still pretty much a wimp. :)
