S&H or PS Series. Advice

I got a bonus at work so I'm getting ready to order some DVD's and just wanted some advice.

1. I'm thinking of ordering the HardCore High Step Challenge and/or the High Step Advanced Training. But it's kind of silly to have both right?

2. Can't decide between Slow and Heavy or Pure Strength. I've heard that Pure Strength music is kind of annoying and on the video clip the slow and heavy looks like it's only meant for heavy weights. I never use anything heavier than 10 lbs on upper and 15-18 lbs on lower. I just want some definition mainly in the upper body. My legs have always been easy to tone up.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Kimbra!

I will give you my 2 cents. Personally, I like PS better than S&H. This will probably fit your needs better as well due to the weights your prefer using. PS is also versatile. Being able to mix and match from the 3 workouts will give you endless options. Lately I have been doing a total body workout with PS by doing 1 exercise per body part. It has been one of my best purchases.

S&H is just what Cathe does. You have to go as heavy as you can in order for this workout to be effective. When I used S&H my body would be totally exhausted and I would be hungry all of the time.

However, I think that not matter what you buy you won't be disappointed.

Good luck!:)

Kimbra...S&H can be a time hog and heavy weights would be best, but of course you can always modify. I have read many use S&H to break thru plateaus. From what you said, I think you would enjoy PS alot better! The music does not bother me and I abslolutely love the shoulder section in PS. With the leg work there is also floor work which some people look for.

Since I haven't done Hardcore yet and I got the whole series I don't have much advice there. Just my 2 cents..I know others will reply....:)...Carole

Well, to answer your first question, I don’t think it's silly to have both workouts. They do appear to be different. In HST there are 6 sets of step ups and from the description in the HC HSC it looks like there are only 2 sets. Plus there are other exercises done that make the two seem different enough to own both.
The music in PS is instrumental background ~ I don’t even notice it really. And, believe it or not, you need to lift that heavy in SH! All the momentum is taken out of the exercise so you actually go a little lighter (than PS). Personally, I like SH much better. It's more challenging and more time is spent per muscle group.

I vote for the PS series. S&H is better for a 3 week rotation now and then and the movement is slower with heavier weight.

Also, both High Step workouts would be great, but you might want to try one out and see how you like it before you buy both at once. I really like HSTA and can't wait for the Hardcore one.

I am an ectomorph (long limbs, skinny arms) and gaines most muscle mass and definition after using Slow & Heavy than any other Cathe weight training series. I don't find that it takes for ever. I love the mental focus and the slower pace really gives you the chance to perfect your form so it is a good idea to revise every now and again with this series to refresh your memory.

Slow and Heavy is my fav for the reasons Clare states. It is great if you really want to feel every part of a move and really focus in. No other Cathe weight tape allows you to do that, IMHO...

Plus, to me PS seems so old. I rarely reach for it cuz I would rather just do PUB/PLB...
