S&H Legs - Squats

Hi Cathe - I did the S&H Legs and Shoulders for the first time today. With the squats that you do holding the 40lb. weight in front of you, would it be just as effective to take 2 20lb. weights and put them on your shoulders? Is there a reason the weight is in front of you instead of on your back? The reason I ask is that I don't have a 40 lb. weight. I used a 30lb. that is my husband's but during the 2nd set, it was really bugging my forearms and I couldn't fully concentrate on the squat.

Usually when I do leg exercises, I put the dumbbells on my shoulders (I don't use a barbell), even when doing lunges. It seems to be easier to balance that way. Is it any less effective to do that than holding them at your sides?

Thanks!
Donna

Since you refer to Cathe having the weight "in front of her" I imagine you are talking about the plie squats. Cathe has said that on plies, holding the dumbbell down in front works a little more deep in the inner thighs and groin area (than other weight placements). But I am sure she would say that you should do whatever is most feasible and comfortable for you. Jeanne
