Rykas

I'm thinking of purchasing some Ryka shoes. I do mainly step, hi/lo, and kickboxing, and I'm NOT a runner. I prefer the look of running shoes over aerobic shoes, but want to go for a good shoe. Does anyone know the differences btwn an aerobic shoe and a running shoe and would purchasing a running shoe for "aerobics" be detrimental enough to really notice a difference??

Also what are your favorite Rykas??

Thanks!

I'm not a shoe expert, Stacy, but I have enough experience with both running shoes and aerobic shoes to know that running shoes are hazardous for aerobic workouts. They are designed to promote forward motion, and many have a bit of a "rocker" to them, meaning they help to propel you forward a bit. They do not have the lateral support that is needed in activity where you are constantly changing direction, and they also do not provide the same level of ankle support. If you wear running shoes to do aerobics of any kind, you risk torquing your knees, and developing ankle problems. I strongly recommend you put function over design and get a proper aerobic or cross-training shoe. I really like Ryka's Supra, but am currently using their Combo shoe (both specifically aerobic shoes). I live in Canada, and finding Rykas around here is very, very difficult. I would love to try their newer aerobic shoes, but have yet to see them at the only store that ever carries Rykas around here.

Have fun shoe shopping!
