Rust stains on clothes

The water where I live isn't the best. Frequently, when I wash my clothes in the washer some of my clothes are covered with rust stains! I've discovered the product "Iron Out" does a great job of getting the rust stains out when I soak the fabric in it, but you can only safely use it on white fabric because it will change the color of non-white clothes. Any suggestions? Is there another product out there that will work on colored fabric in getting rust stains out? Is there a product I could add with my detergent when doing a load of laundry that will prevent the rust from staining my clothes in the first place? Thanks!

Check the inside of your washer/dryer for rust. It may be the machines, not your water supply, causing the problems. Maybe you need new ones.
I read cream of tartar is good for rust stains on delicate clothes. You can search the internet for various recipes.

Give Spray and Wash a try. My mom used that when we were kids and she got *everything* out of our clothes!

Are you sure its the washer and not the dryer?? Sometimes the dryer can do this and you need to clean it.

If its the washer I'd try running an empty load with just bleach or something to try and clean it out...or buy a new one :)
