Running vs KPC

As a general rule running one mile burns about 100 cals. Depending on how fast and how many miles you run. I'd say runnning is more effective for burning fat...IMO...:)...Carole

That's about right, Carole:)

Charlotte, I ran 4 miles today and burned 462cals and it took me 45min (my leg was bothering me so I had to really really slow down). Usually it takes around 40min.

I am just trying to get some ideas as when I run my knees and hips are shot the next day and that eliminates any lower body work that I would normally be able to do so I am kind of frustrated about that and trying to find another way to burn just as much fat without running.

Charlotte, I think the Imaxes are close to running intervals (especially if you do Imax Extreme premix), so is MIC but I am not so sure how those would affect your knees. The other alternative is a Nordic track or Elliptical machine. I have done intervals on my Nordic track and there is no impact. My Heartrate was about as high as when I run....hope this helps....:)...Carole

I was surprised recently when I saw in a fitness magazine (M&F Hers? Fit? I don't remember off hand) a chart that showed calorie burn for different forms of exercise. I'd always thought running burnt the most (except for maybe rope jumping?), but they ranked both step and kickboxing as the same, ABOVE running.

maybe that's an individual thing?

Imax2 burns approx. 325cals (55min) for me and KPC approx. 360cals (60min). Boot Camp (60min) however burns approx. 410 cals. So running burns more cals for me in less time.

Dutchie- Thanks for the information. Just what I was looking for so I can compare. Just wish I didn't have such "tripped out" knees. LOL

Charlotte~~

Hi Charlotte,

My knees aren't great either (poor patella tracking), but good shoes, very slowly building my weekly miles, no (running) interval training and making sure my quads are very strong keeps me running :)
