Running in place???

Hello!

I have a silly question to ask any runners:

On a hot day, would it be bad if I stayed in and ran in place in front of my air conditioner?

Would I be injuring my running muscles by doing this? I know that I may not have that proper running form.

Unfortunately, I don't have a treadmill.

Anyone do this?

Thank you!

I don't know if I would stand in one place running--our bodies just aren't meant to move that way, in place-- but doing some back and forth running? Leslie Sansone has some 'jogging' in some of her walking workouts, and she always transitions from walking to jogging and back again by moving forward and back, saying its easier on the body.

IMO, running in place would be rather high impact (especially staying in one place, as all the energy is going up and down rather than some of it going forward), but jogging/sprinting/running on a rebounder is a great idea, IMO. You get the intensity of a jog, with the reduced impact of working out on the soft surface. And rebounders cost less than treadmills and take up less space.

Holy moly--I just had a vision of myself trying to run on a rebounder. It ended with me falling on my rear end on the 3rd step & breaking my spine!

Laura, I had the same thought!

I also remembered a time when it rained for many days at once and my dad jogged in circles around our basement. :) It wasn't his usual pace or the best workout, I am sure, but it was better than nothing!

well................ha ha! I hope not to fall!

My personal trainer friend said I could do this - but switch it up with jacks or something in between so my muscles don't get burnt out from the same motion.

I know it is kind of weird. But I do watch Cathe while doing it!

Anyone else????

I do running in place/high jogs in between my weight circuits and I don't have any problems with my 37 year old joints. I do a joint mobility warm up before doing high impact and I have no problems.

I guess it is all personal choice.....

Most people would find this boring I suppose! :)

I use Leslie sansone 1 mile jog, plus the hi/lo section of MIC. This subsituites for my run. It is frustrating when you can't run outside. I don't run nearly as much as I would like. Mary
