Running again

Cathlete
I started running again and am planning a 5 mile race in April, a 10K in May and hopefully find a 1/2 marathon to run in early summer.

Well - I ran 2 miles yesterday - UGH - I am so out of "running shape". It takes a whole different kind of person to run, and I forgot that; I can do a Cathe tape, but running is a whole different ballgame. I've ran a 1/2 marathon before and was in pretty good shape, but since then lost it (but getting it back).

Whew - that 2 miles just about did me in and I couldn't believe it. I used to run 5, 6, 7 miles without hardly much effort and now 2 is a struggle!!! I can't wait to get to that point again where I can just go out and run for an hour and not worry about it. :)

I know - it will come!!

Take care,
Marcia

hi marica

well i guess we are in the same boat. before the holiday i was doing 6 miles.i havent been running in about a month and i am kind of scared LOL. tomorrow i am going to attempt a 2 mile run to see how much i have lost since then. hopefully it won't take TOO long for both of us to get back up there. i would like to run my first 5k to see how i do then hopefully push it up from there. i just love running, almost like a moving meditation for me. its one of my goals in the coming months to not only get back to my point but to go further even if its just 1/2 mile.

good luck, and we are here for ya!!!

Marcia...you will get it back. Just take it very slow and try not to put in alot of miles quick. I know when I have been injured it does take time to come back. I am trying to add miles now and it is so tough...for me I know it's just age...:)...Carole

"I just love running, almost like a moving meditation for me..."

Kassia, I couldn't agree with you more on this one. I don't wear music or anything when running because I just love letting my thoughts flow:)

Marcia - what Carole said:) Take it slow and easy and soon you'll be back running those 5 and 10K's no problem:)

Marcia - Carole's right - you'll get it back. Just go slow and keep a consistent training schedule. That's great that you are planning race events! It will keep you motivated. I ran a 5K the beginning of December and didn't do much running during the holidays and am just now getting back to it as well. I signed up for an 8K in April and a half marathon in May so I have no excuse but to get my butt in gear! Once you do it again, it feels great and you wonder why you ever took time off.

That's exactly what I was thinking yesterday - why in the world did I quit in the first place. :)

Good job Marcia!

So for those of you out there that run and do Cathe's (or anyones) workouts, how do you split up the two? Do you run and do a DVD in one day or alternate them?

I ran marathons and ultra's before I had my two kids and miss it dearly! I want to get back into running asap!!

It will come and you are doing good! I don't think many people can run 2 miles just starting out! I know I couldn't.
I was wondering how you were doing with your new resolution and I think you have piled your plate up pretty high.Good for you! Keep adding the goals and that way you will stick to them.
Keep us posted and don't be to hard on yourself. It wouldn't be much fun if everything we did, we did 100%,then we would have nothing to work towards.

Hi Kristen:

When I was training for my 1/2 marathon a few years ago, I used Cathe's DVDs for the strength and endurance training and ran for any cardio. I did follow a rotation, but I'm not sure what one. I think I used one from Runner's World or something. I haven't found one to work with for my next 1/2. :)

Marcia.

That is great Marcia. It seems hard to fit it all in, doesn't it? I want to try and figure some way to do that! If I do, I will let you know! ;-)
