What strength and/or endurance work do you do with weights while you are training for a race? I'm just starting a 1/2 marathon training and am not sure what weight training I should put in there with the cardio.

Thanks,

Hi Marcia...:)...if you are new to strength training I'd say maybe an overall endurance workout 2 times a week to see how you feel. Or split them up and do an upper body one day and a lower the next. Not sure which workouts you have...PH,ME are good, MM might be a bit tougher but you can modify any workout by using lighter weights.....:)...Carole

Hi Marcia,

I recently completed a 1/2 marathon this past weekend. I think everyone is different in terms of what types of weight training they do and to what extent. Some runners do very little weight work because they feel that it interferes with their performance. I personally like to go pretty intense as I feel that it makes me a stronger runner. So basically I do my strength training regardless of if I'm training for a particular race or not.

I think the best thing for you to do early on in your training is determine if you feel that the weight training is affecting your performance. If you determine that to be the case then I would modify my rotation to accommodate.

Thank you, I do have PH and ME. I have all the DVD's but the new hardcore series (yet). :)

I will give that a try.
