Runner's Check-in Mon Apr 10

Hi Elaine!

I'm way north east of you. I live in Colfax which is off of I-80 about 15 miles north east of Auburn on the way to Truckee. Very beautiful up here, although you live in pretty Pismo! I haven't been down there is years. I bet your outdoor runs are nice! I live in a real hilly area, and even if I drive to Auburn for running it is a given rolling hill run! I tell ya, this treadmill thing is ok for easing back into running, but as soon as that sun peeks through...I am going to want to be OUTSIDE! ....

Hi Ladies!

I plan on running 5.5 miles this evening and some core work. That is it for me. I ran a 5k on Saturday and ran 5.5 miles yesterday and my calves are sore today.

Josie

Good Afternoon Runners! So glad to hear that things are really progressing for those who are newer to running, way to go Jen and Diane!
Ellen, sorry to hear about your cold, but I think that the best you can do is to let your body rest so that you can heal, especially with your race date so close by. Get LOTS of sleep and down the garlic and white tea like a maniac.
Thanks to everyone for the great advice about running hills. I live in upstate NY (think eroded plateau) and there are hills everywhichway you turn, and I always try to plot a course that it light on the downhill b/c it has a tendency to make my lower bach ache.
Shelley-Any news on the hip?
I just wanted to say that would you California girls quit with the cold and rainy weather already? You are seriously starting to affect the price and quality of the available strawberries, and I am deadly serious about strawberries:p
I did a 30 minute interval run following Imax 3 today (one of Cathe's Jan. 2006 endurance burners) and feel great, the weather his is high 50's with abundant sunshine :7 :7

We're thinking of moving sort of for job reasons, sort of for my school reasons, but mostly for cost-of-living reasons. We want to buy a house, and the difference in housing costs between here and Indiana is huge! We also have a lot of friends who live in Indy, and my boyfriend's family lives there (although all of my family is in Wis.). The Indy mini is the event that I'm training for now... it'll be my first time. I'm glad it's such a huge event :)
I got my bachelor's degree at Purdue and worked there for a while too!

I am doing the mini as well. I have finally agreed to do it with my mom and I am so scared that I will be trampled to death - there is something like 36,000 participants! Phew! It has been very fun training for it, though. I am running as fast as I was in high school which is pretty darn cool! :)

Missy

Thanks Mattea and Gloria! I know I am not very fast yet, but I am over a minute faster than I thought I was. That is fun! I have been filling in DH on all the great advise I am getting from this check-in, so he is benefiting for everyone here as well!

Diane..sounds like you are coming along great with your running. Going at it like you have is the BEST way...:)

Thanks Tomasina...I got drenched in my 16 miler yesterday...well, DUH I live in Cali-RAIN-ia too!!...ahhhh to be in Pismo with Elaine!.....take care of that hip...:)

Hi Josie...are you training for anything specific?

Gloria...way to go on those intervals...:)

Mattea...trust me we are hatng the rain too....I get my starwberries frozen, makes for good smoothies...:)

That is one killer workout Lori...WOW!

I only ran 3 miles this morning...not liking this rain at all...x( x( x(

Carole,

I will be running in New York this year but not until November 5th.
In the meantime I'm just getting back into the shorter distances
to get my speed back. My training for the marathon does not start until May 22nd. I know what you mean about the rain, I live in LA and I'm sick of it.

Josie

Looks like everyone is doing pretty darn good!! I did not run...usually don't on Mondays. I did 60 on the elliptical then did Muscle Max. Feeling GREAT! Weather is turning gorgeous...that means one thing...shoe shopping!!!!

Keep it up, Ladies!

That sounds great Josie...I wish you well...I saw this bumper sticker the other day that I should use here "The Older I Get, The Faster I Used To Be" I have no clue where my speed went? I know you guys in LA have had lots of rain too...I am praying for nice weather like Sarah has...:)

Diane - I just read your post and I think you are doing GREAT! It's so exciting to build up and progress a bit farther each time. And you are not "slow" by any means! You go, girl!

Carole - yah, the rain has worn out its welcome here too. We get a mix of snow and rain, but mostly it has been raining now the past few days or so. I work in Grass Valley so the same goes. My daughter's horse has had enough of a mud bath too! SOrry your trail run got you drenched, but just think of how hot it will be come June on the Western States! :+ Yikes!

Mattea - Yeah, I'm ready for a good crop of fresh strawberries. Lately, I've been buying a nice size crop of blueberries, marionberries, and raspberries frozen and bagged by the nice folks up north in Washington. They have been supplying my gala appples too! :9

Josie - I thought it "never rains in SOuthern California"..hee hee...just a song I used to know....You're lucky to do New York! Good luck!

Thomasina

I was having fun training for it until the last week! I think I'm going to take a rest day today and try to run tomorrow. I want to try to do 11 miles this Saturday. I'm excited but nervous about the actual event... it's more than I've ever run. But a friend of mine is doing it as well, and she's run it before so it should be okay. We're going to go out for a steak dinner somewhere in Indy that night to celebrate :) Nothing like using food for motivation!
ellen

I didnt run today either. I got up at five oclock and did my spin class for 45minutes. It is gorgeous here today, tomorrow is suppose to be even nicer!!!
