RT "locals" - where to walk?

RE: RT

Lorrie,

What time do you plan on walking? I would like to go - but I do not get into the Phil. airport until 11:50 AM. If all goes well, I am hoping to be to the hotel by 2:00. I am under the impression that the airport is only 30 to 45 minutes from the hotel.

Let me know - I can PM you my cell phone number. I like to workout everyday - I will be flying out at 8 in the morn - so I won't be able to do my usualy morning workout.

Please let me know one way or another.

Cheryl

RE: RT

Hi-
I am a local not going on the RT.

Lorrie, will you have a rental car? There are not really any parks within walking distance of your hotel that I am aware of, and it is a heavily trafficked area. I personally would not care to walk/run along those roads. With a car, though, you would have access to some nice parks.

The airport run at that time of day should run about 30 minutes (longer if you are using a Rapid Rover type of service that makes stops). Those coming in later in the afternoon are likely to hit shore traffic on Rt. 42.

RE: RT

Hi Cathy. I'll have my own car, so driving is not a problem (except for your darned "jug handles" -
:-/) I found on the Deptford website a park called Almonesson Creek Park that syas it has a walking trail. Is it in a safe area? Do you know how long the trail is? The park is on Cooper Street - is that far from the hotels?

Cheryl - yes - pm me your cell phone number. I'm getting in on Thursday and will take Cathe's Friday a.m. step class. But it would be awesome if we could hook up and kick out some mielage before the meet and greet Friday night. I have to keep up my walking in prep for the following weekend. I'll let you know if it looks like we can do it. Thanks ladies!

Lorrie-
Ha, that's funny - Almonesson was exactly the park that came to my mind first. It's the closest one to your hotel that I'm aware of. I have never been there myself, so I don't know how long the trail is, but it looks nice and is mostly wooded, from what I can tell from the main road. It just a few minutes around the corner from your hotel - be glad to give you directions if you need them. Also on Cooper Street is a fabulous Italian restaurant called Filomena's. Is the trail safe? I don't know how populated it is, but generally, this is a safe area. That being said, I'm someone who always runs with pepper spray.

HA! You had BETTER DARE!! Cheryl and I are going to hook up and shoot for 8-10. Gayle PLEASE join us! I had lunch with Mama Deb a few weeks ago and showed her my shirt. Now I also have a giant sign with oodles of signatures that I'm going to have posted along the walk route. Mama D signed my sign, but even though I had my shirt there I wouldn't let her sign it - reserved the first sig for you! (Sorry Deb). Gayle I also owe you some thoughts on your coaching endeavors, but I just got back from vacation so as soon as I reacclimate I'll get those out (thank Debbie for bringing that to my attention as well - she really is the best!)

Oh, Lorrie! I hope I live up to the expectations of being the FIRST to sign your shirt! lol What an honor!

We'll see how Thursday pans out. I promise that if it's do-able....I'll be walking also!

RE: RT

Fingers crossed Gayle (I e-mailed you). Cathy (RunninTeach) - could you give me directions on how to get to the park? I tried to pull it up on mapquest and mapblast, but the only thing I have for the park is on Cooper St and that's not specific enough to generate directions. If it's a problem, I'm sure I can just ask at the hotel desk. Thanks!

RE: RT

Hi Lorrie-

I googled Almonesson Park NJ and found directions. This park looks beautiful-exactly what I was looking for as I was planning on walking on Friday. Julie and I are flying in together so I will have to tell her about this park. Thanks for this thread as it was very helpful. See you all in a few days!

RE: RT

Hi there! This park sounds wonderful! Are there any runners interested in doing this Friday morning? I thought it would be a good alternative rather than trying to get in Cathe's Advanced step class. It would be frustrating since it is for regulars and I wouldn't be familiar with the moves. I'll be getting plenty of stepping in on Saturday anyway. Carole (Mckmain) and I would like to get in a run Friday morning. Anybody else interested?

RE: RT

Very easy to get there. You'll make a right out of your hotel...you will go through 3 traffic lights (passing Friendly's on the right...then a Staples shopping center then a Home Depot/Old Country Buffet) and at the fourth light, make a right onto Cooper. There'll be a bar called the Krazy Kat on the corner. Almonesson Park will be just a little ways down on your right-hand side - across from Almonesson Catering.

RE: RT

No problem Lorrie! I think it's great you saved that honor for Gayle! She deserves it! Have a great time on your walk! Go-Go-Go!!!! Safe travels to all.

RE: RT

Great....another decision to make: Friday's step class (good point on it maybe being frustrating for the gym regulars), walking 8-10 or running! SHEESH! lol Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.

ETA: LORRIE!!!! I just saw Grandma Thorne and that pic of her is FANTASTIC! How cute is she?!?! What inspiration!

RE: RT

Ohhhh - tough decision Gayle! I will say that the Friday a.m. step class in '05 did not seem to present a problem or have a high frustration level for either Cathe's regulars or those of us totally thrilled off the charts at being in her class.

And THANKS for the comment on Grandma Thorne - she was an amazing woman. Did you also notice that I made my goal of $5,000??? YAY! I was so concerned in the beginning about raising the required $2200 and never dreamed I'd be over $5,000. One of my training buddies is over $25,000 - OMG!

See you Friday - at whatever events you choose! Can't wait.
