Rotation Of Cycle #1 & #2

If I only wanted to do the cycle #1 and then cycle #2, after I completed cycle #2 would I cycle back to #1 or keep doing #2 with larger weights?

Parker,

Why dont you want to do Mesocycle # 3?

What are your fitness objectives? (fat loss, build muscle...?) - based on that perhaps Cathe or someone from the educated gang may be able to suggest what to do after Mesocycle # 2, if it is not going to be Meso # 3.

The way I understand it, doing Mesocycle # 3 will benefit you even if strength is not a core goal. The strength you gain will help you to do better with other workouts or even when you do STS again. It will serve as a good complement to the endurance, muscle developement/definition efforts you make in future.

I'm 50 and don't want to be so intense at body building but want to build muscle and have a changing routine so it does not get old. Cycle #3 seems way to intense for me.

It does for me too. I can't lift very heavy. No matter what I do I can't seem to go up in weights. I will forever be doing bicep curls with 15lb dumbells and one arm rows with 20lb dumbells. I just can't seem to get stronger. Plus, if I do try and go heavier than my current max's, I never get DOMS and don't feel worked out. I ended up getting STS for my birthday, but if I hadn't, I wasn't planning on ordering Meso #3. I would have only gotten one and two.

Maybe it won't be by the time you get to it (after MC 1 and 2). Also, mesocycle 3 isn't really body building (that takes shorter rests and higher reps, like MC 2), but for building strength. And isn't it a good idea to be as strong as you can be? It makes everything so much easier: lugging around luggage when traveling, dealing with shopping bags, doing house- and yardwork.

I'm 51, and I want to be able to be independant long into my old age. For that, strength is important.

You're already getting MC 3, right? Why not hang on to it and see if you want to try it out once you've finished MC2?

I tried an STS-modeled rotation with the folk at VF. I fared quite well until the end of Meso 2. I floundered on Meso 3. It was my first time lifting so heavy (80+% of my 1 rep max). I gave up after 1 week. Like Allie said, in theory it seems straight forward. You lift a heavier weight for less reps. But I found I could not give myself what seemed like an effective workout. When I lift that heavy it feels different from working out with more reps and a lighter weight. Every rep is hard, right from rep 1. There is no working through the burn as happens with lighter weights on the last few reps. Either I can lift the next rep or I fail. The set gets over so quickly and then cpmes the relatively long rest. I did not feel like I was giving myself a good workout because I was not tiring like I do with Meso 1 and Meso 2. But I think the issue is that I dont know how to train Meso 3 style.

The way I look at it, I coped better on Meso 1 and 2 because I was familiar with this kind of training from working out with Cathe DVDs. I am betting Cathe will make Meso 3 challenging and yet attainable/fun just like she has done with endurance and hypertrophy focused workouts in the past.

I decided to wait until STS-Gym but I feel most tempted at the thought of getting Meso 3 from the current system. If anyone can make lifting that heavy feel effective and safe, in my opinion it is Cathe. I also feel ultra tempted by Meso 1. I tried the exercises from the blog and they are so much fun - especially the leg work.

I ordered STS. Took the plunge. I have just moved and wanted to change up my life so I joined a gym and bought 3 months of personal training 3x a week. My goal is to lose 40# in one year. I'm actually on my way to being 50 yrs old and by the time I hit 50 I do not want to be fat. Gonna go to Vegas to celebrate my 50th birthday and hopefully losing 40#.

So I figured I will be out of personal training in September and I'm hoping STS will be out in September. Then I'll load it on my IPOD and I'll just start doing STS at the gym.

Go me.

Hi Parkercp! Go back to Mesocycle # 1 and then when you do Mesocycle #2 for the second time you'll most likely be able to use heavier weights :7

I think you were wise to go ahead and order the complete STS!! I turned 53 this year and I'm SO looking forward to STS. I think the whole concept is genius and I can't wait for it!! Don't sell yourself short. Haven't you heard -- 50 is the new 30. ;-) :7

Enjoy your PT sessions and good luck with your weight loss goal!
