Roomba automatic vacuum cleaner?

Does anyone here have one? If so, do you LOVE it? I fantasize about coming home to floors that clean themselves, are ALWAYS clean and get rid of all the pet hair FOR me. I REALLY REALLY want one but will have to work a lot of overtime to pay for it. Also, I will STILL need to pull out my regular vacuum to hit the stairs and upholstery. I need someone to tell me it will be worth it.

Anyone?

My sister has one and bought one for my mom. It's nice, but for $300 I really don't think it's worth it. JMO and sorry if it's not what you want to hear!

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

I threw mine out. (No one even bothered with it at my garage sales) It did do a nice job vacuuming and cleaning the hard wood, but the dirt reservoir is SO tiny that you always end up cleaning it more than it's worth. And if you have a pet that sheds at all, forget it (we have a golden retriever). To get my carpets and floors all done the way I really wanted then to be done, I'd have to clean it out mid-cycle. Not worth it IMO unless you have no pets and a relatively small area. I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear either - sorry.

I have a couple of friends that have some, and they each tell me that their Roomba's are very good at AVOIDING any dirt or dustballs that may be on the floor!
Plus, it's circular, so it can't get into corners...which is where I find the majority of my dust-bunnies and kitty hairballs like to hide.

IMO, it's not worth the $$.

My SIL has one and at first it was nice for her to come home to a freshly vacuumed floor. She still needs to vacuum with her reg vac once a week. IMO this is an overpriced carpet sweeper. Her Roomba is now sitting on the charger and hasnt been used becuase she needs new filters that are around $10 a piece.

I would however like to know if anyone has the Scooba by these guys. I wonder how those work? It's the version that washes your floors. I hate washing the floors, I'm a hands and knees kinda person.

I have one. And it was great the first time I used it and had nice clean floors (except for corners, as is noted above). However, after about 5 uses, the battery doesn't hold a charge, so it cleans for about 5 minutes (just enough time to vaccuum a bit), then beeps to tell me to recharge. I bought mine from Hammacher Schlemmer (sp?), which has a 'lifetime guarantee." I'm going to see if they honor it.

I think a better idea is a steam mop with a microfiber pad. I've seen some on QVC, and Shark sells one. They require more work than the Scooba (though maybe not much more, because you have to clean the corners, and behind and around the toilet after the Scooba anyway), but they clean quickly and sanitize at the same time.

I love those Micro Fiber clothes. Those suckers will clean everything and anything and all you need is hot water.

I hardly ever buy harsh cleaning products.

We bought one when they first came out and experienced the same thing as Kathryn. After repeated use, it couldn't hold a charge long enough to clean anything. Plus I never really knew if it did the whole floor because it starts in a circular pattern but once it hits an object, it goes careening off in another direction. Doesn't get into corners either as others have noted.

Hey Kathryn-I have been considering that Shark steam mop too. Let me know if you decide to get one and how well it works. I wonder if it is safe on wood floors?

As Catheite I'd think you'd be more interested in saving your money and and using your regular vacuum while doing some mambo cha-chas or of course the rhumba in your house while vacuuming. I do :7

I work 12 hour days and am only now down to a 5-day work week. I understand I'm going to be working 12-hour days with NO days off starting some time in June. Five cats and two guest cats. I vacuum, turn around, and the floor is dirty again. With my schedule it's impossible to keep up.

All this is sooooo disappointing. The messages on the I-Robot website are all so positive. I would have been livid if I'd bought it and found it to be the hassle everyone here says. Just goes to show you, you can't count on the company website for an unbiased opinion.

Another fantasy bites the big one. And I was REALLY hoping....

They're supposed to be safe on "sealed wood floors" (is there another kind?)
