Rock Climbing Walls

Have you ever done this? What was your experience? There is a new fitness facility opening in my area in March and they are going to have 3 walls (1 for adults; 1 for kids; 1 for toddlers/preschoolers). I've never done it and I'm wondering how difficult it is?

Hi Dana,

I've rock climbed, both in a gym and outdoors on real rocks. It's a lot of fun and not really hard to get into.

The first few times might feel a little awkward as you start to trust the rope and get the technique down. Most beginners usually feel it really heavily in their arms at first because they're focusing on staying close to the wall and climbing too much with the upper body, instead of using the feet/legs more. Someone at the facility should be able to help you with the technoque part.

Give it a try, it's a blast!!

I ditto Gayle. I went to a women's rock climbing class; the experience was a challenge of my strength as well as my nerve and I am so glad I did it!

You will learn to trust yourself, your belayer (the person who operates your ropes) and realize that you can accomplish what seems impossible. The first time is hard but tell yourself you can do it and take your time doing so. Every time gets easier after that and you will find yourself trying more challenging courses.

Good luck and have fun!

Interesting you should bring it up. I just had a friend stop by yesterday and ask if I wanted to go wall climbing with her sometime. We haven't set a day but it's a for sure. We are both 37 and don't understand how it can be scary when you are anchored to someone. I guess we'll go and find out.

If you go be sure to report back I want to hear about it.

Trish
