RMR/BMR explained more thoroughly please!

I understandt aht RMR is your resting metabolic rate....mine came up to be 1417. (I tested several different calculations on the web and they all fell within a range of 1410-1450ish)....what I need to know is this: Do I eat that amount a day to lose weight, or do I eat that PLUS what I burn in calories in exercise (say 400/day) to come up with 1800/day? Remember, I want to lose weight,not maintain. Thanks!
 
Then I'd say you need to consume 1400-1500ish while remaining active to lose weight. To maintain while staying active, consume 1800. Care to share your web site?
 
sorry, I just did a google search for rmr and went to maybe 5-7 different places. Thanks for the info!
