I have been keeping a food diary and counting my calories. So far I have not tried to alter my behavior, I'm just keeping track of what I eat. The very fact of writing things down has already altered my food choices for the better which is a good thing.
Now I want to deliberatly cut my calories, but not by too much.
I've tried that. I know where that leads and I have no wish to go there again. Here is my question (you knew I'd finally get around to it). Is there a formula for figuring out the right amount of calories for an active person at such and such a weight.
If there is, do I base the formula on what I want to weigh, or what I weigh now? Basically I'd like to lose at the pace of 1/2 to 1 lb. a week.
With my food diary, I'm finding out that my intake can vary by about 400 calories on some days. I'm just interested in safe sensible weight loss with no gimmicks that allows me some flexibility to have treats once in a while.
